the control's office in the city of san francisco released a report that he lights the san francisco residents about public services that they experience. this includes our public schools. i would like to take a moment to highlight the key insights from this report which i think are very good barometers about how the public is perceiving our public schools. >> the percentage of respondents with school aged children attending schools have increased in the past five years from 66 percent to 71 percent. we find that many of our colleagues and school districts across the nation are experiencing decreasing enrollment are having increasing. the percentage that rates it as excellent, have increased by 8 percent in the past two years from 18 to 26 percent, the percentage of respondents at schools are good or excellent and increased in the last two years from 66 to 74 percent and the percentage that rated our schools as average or poor has decreased by 8 percent in the past two years. from 34 to 26 percent and the percentage of respondents with young children indicating an intention to move o

my name is [inaudible] and work with san francisco wrap around project san francisco general hospital. i want to say that the man that just spoke he's a hero. he's saved lives at san francisco general hospital. when there were two rival gang members that come to the hcht because there is a shooting this man stuck his neck out for the public good to negotiate a diplomatic peace agreement on site within 10 minutes to half an hour and he provides a competency to the hospital that is extremely difficult to provide because he grew up here in the city and he knows the people in the neighborhood. he understands the culture, the streets and he's a public health professional, so we're here today to ask the city and county of san francisco and board of supervisors to support the increase for our budget. we haven't had a increase in four years and we want to thank supervisor john avalos and eric mar and london breed for assisting us and pushing forward our budget ask and we also want to say because of the increase in cost of living that is driving up poverty for a percentage of the city while so

that never resided in san francisco? >> we didn't do the survey, so i don't know. >> i imagine that number would come down dramatically if we were to ask that question. >> i think so. >> yeah. so the second thing i'll say is this. i'll say two things. one, i know a lot of families come to san francisco for numerous reasons of which you talked about. i was shocked at the number of lgtb individuals that fleed their communities because they weren't accepted there so san francisco was a place they'd feel welcome. i don't think it would be the policy of san francisco to say well, since you are not a san francisco resident, we can't help you, right? >> right. which is not this policy, just to be clear. >> so the second thing is if i was -- my family was homeless i would do everything in my means to get my family housed and i don't think anyone in this room, taxpayers or not, would not understand that. i would put myself on every single list possible if i had the wherewithal to. >> i absolutely agree. it's important that when y

it is costly and difficult to do business in san francisco, to raise your children in san francisco. i would like a voice at the table to create policies that will minimize the stigma that san francisco is not a business- friendly city, minimize the stigma of that san francisco prioritizes the rights of dogs over children. we started walking down that path largely because of political ideology. it is less about politics. i want to have a positive impact on the city overall, specifically district 10, connecting it to the city. people have been left to defend for themselves. i am honored to have been elected to serve to be the next advocate for the next four years, hopefully the next eight years, to really protect, defense, and serve the residents of district 10. >> we will talk more about some of the issues facing district 10. before we do, i would like to know a little bit about what you learned campaigning for supervisor. talk to me a little about that experience. >> first, i learned that a lot of the conversations we have about our neighborhood and community happens in silos. we ha

this is the most affordable form of homeownership here in san francisco today. we want to provide security for their families and for their communities. second of all, we talk to increased tenant protections by current laws offering all tenants, not just protected class tenants, but all tenants and these unions, in these tic buildings lifetime leases. and lastly through this legislation, we also sought to create a large pool of capital for affordable housing here in san francisco. we can all agree that creating affordable housing opportunities here in san francisco is key whether through rentals or homeownership opportunities, and this legislation was estimated to raise over $20 million that would be directed towards our city's affordable housing fund. now, when my legislation was going to be heard for the first time at the land use committee back in january, i learned there were concerns from the tenants rights advocates community. so, i took part in over three months of intense negotiations between the tenants rights advocates and the homeowners rights advocat

i'm a staff member at san francisco village. my role is volunteer and i take member requests that come in. because of confidentiality i won't mention the members names. about two years ago i got a call from a man who needed someone to take him grocery shopping as well as take out his garbage. his partner moved out and we were able to match him up with a volunteer to meet those needs but at the same time fulfilling that need of companionship. in addition we also have a member named rose who is a disabled person. she's losing her sight. we have someone going to her >> i live in martin tower. i'll tell you a few things i've done through the village. yesterday, i went although to a presentation on facebook i learned about it and what it's for and what you do with it. presumably if i go home i'll all be my friends. next tuesday i'm going to a lecturer on long term care. it will be at the san francisco village when we do presentations of subjects relevant to us we get to go to the meeting for free or half price that's a terrific arran

rector in san francisco. i've been with the for about nine years, and we are excited to put on this forum today to help people learn how they can access credit and capital for their small business. click background on some of what was accomplished in the last congress when later closing was speaker of the house. she had had 16 tax cuts signed into law to help small businesses grow and thrive. as we know, during the last 15 years, small businesses account for about 2/3 of the job growth in our country, but when the bush recession hits in 2009, 2010, small businesses were hit particularly hard. small businesses are the center of her agenda. congress under her leadership gave 27 million small businesses tax cuts. two main pieces of legislation -- the small businesses jobs act in the information you have, will create a total of 500,000 jobs and create eight tax cuts. they are all described in the packet you have. also, unleashing up to $300 billion in credit for small businesses to access. there are another eight

so, ideally, using the san francisco rec and park, the future san francisco arts app, using our mobile commerce to manage that is creating jobs, revenue, and efficiency for the public and tourists to be able to navigate san francisco in a way that hasn't been done before. thank you. >> all right. (applause) >> so, we're going to show another application from motion launch, the founder and ceo, john, will be sharing some of the work that they're doing. they're based here out of san francisco and they've got a great announcement to make. >> i am jon mills. i'm ceo of motion loft. we started about three years ago developing sensors that we could place around cities that would give us some analytics on how people move around cities and how vehicles drive around cities. so, currently we have 16 neighborhoods -- 18 neighborhoods covered in san francisco, and we get real-time data back that shows exactly how many people go by some of the busiest areas in san francisco. so, you can see here san francisco, on average total, i think we had 150 people cross our sensors on average for every sensor

in san francisco for over eight. although a lot of grated reasons to do this work, meeting neighbors, getting to truly know a neighborhood, being part of positive change, very rarely do organizers that do this work, do this work for awards and appreciation. to be honest, the most tireless and hardest working community organizers that i've been inspired by and had the opportunity to work with are relatively unknown outside of their neighborhood or cause. and when i found out i was being honored for this work i've been lucky to be part of the last four years, i literally cried. a huge thank you for supervisor avalos's office and your staff. not only supporting my organization and my work, but being willing to be innovative and creative in the ways you support d-11 such as these community action grants. these community action grants were specifically aimed at helping residents and nonprofits implement direct change in their own backyards. and it's through the development and implementation of these community-led grants

the city and county of san francisco. again, i also want to thank congresswoman pelosi for hosting this event, and with her staff, and her leadership around all the work she has done supporting small businesses. because she comes from san francisco, and, by our definition, is small business is a business with under 100 employees. that is almost 85% of all businesses in the city. because she is from here, she really understands what small businesses are about, and she articulates your needs in washington, d.c. in may 2008, san francisco opened the office of small business, under the leadership of gavin newsom, under the urging of our small business leaders. the mayor heard there was a need for the community to have a small office to help the needs of our small businesses in san francisco, help them understand and navigate the complex structure in getting a business opened within the city and county of san francisco. initially, primarily, we were going to be about helping you understand licensing and permitting requirements

when i graduated, i move to san francisco. my first job, i started working developing economic policies for low-income communities statewide in california. i worked with young people, parents, families are around issues that concern our neighborhoods, whether it was communities, affordable housing, public schools, or just planning issues in neighborhoods like parks. i did that and actually ran for the board of education here in san francisco. i got a term on the school board working for families in our public school system and actually worked for the lawyers community and i came to the board of supervisors. >> why did you choose to live in san francisco? supervisor kim: you know, i do not know if i have a good answer for that. i just wanted to try it out. >> tell me what motivated your interest in politics. supervisor kim: that is a tough question to answer. i never had any intention to get involved in the electoral process. >> really? supervisor kim: i was always politically active. i was always working on statewide initiativ

francisco or the san joaquin valley. >> thank you, mr. boland. >> we fill a little different role. we don't have any infrastructure but we represent utilities that have 88 percent of the infrastructure that keep our populations running. we cover from the mexican border to oregon and what we facilitate through the organization is we are embedded with the state of california through the last 60 years. we are in the cali complex, we have an mou with the secretary of cali and can bring resources from other companies in the field across all the disciplines for mutual assistance. we can stage, deploy and sit on situational awareness providing the state the information they need to posture a response and at the same time we can then be putting together the teams that are going to have to come in and support pg&e or other utilities that are in the stricken zone. we'll be calling on organizations from san diego to redding, we'll be calling on organizations outside the state of california that we have mou's with out of nevada and other surrounding

san francisco has changed. ashe pot deadlines have changed and invariably the projects have changed. with the affordable care emphasis on ambulatory care [speaker not understood], volumes seem to have stabilized and allowed for change in scope of the rebuild. [speaker not understood] the redesign will require another massive [speaker not understood]. not unprecedented agreement has been reached which confers significant benefits to the residents of this city. while these are positive changes for both cpmc in the city, cpmc and its design team must be very nimble in preparing and securing rosh pot totals to meet the seismic deadlines that have not been made. fortunately, cpmc has a great project delivery team. we all need you to approve this project today so that redesign can begin in earnest and cpmc can move to the next phase of delivering care to all san franciscans. thank you. >> thank you. we're excited now there's cross-department collaboration with the san francisco arts, with the san francisco public art which has now been thanks to sean working late last night, putting the public arts into golden gate park. this is providing access. it's providing efficiency, and it's providing new revenue streams and opportunities for the city of san francisco and other departments. we are really excited to be here and i thank you all again for this opportunity to be able to innovate, to be able to work with the city of san francisco, and have this incredible opportunity to be here at the hatchery launching our application and our company. thank you very much.
