sony officials say its board of directors will consider the proposal. the focus is now on how sony will respond if third point tries to exercise more power as a major shareholder. >>> here are the latest market figures. >>> experts on a japanese government panel are poised to approve research that would allow scientists to try to grow human organs in animals. the experiments could help lead to the production of organs for transplant. they would involve ips stem cells. scientists want to program ips cells to develop into specific organs and then inject the cells into the pigs or other animals. the eggs put back into the animal's womb and the animal's youf spring will be born with human organs. medical teams could transplant organs and get them to people in need. the government panel has drawn up a draft proposal saying this type of research should be permitted. but the experts are calling for case by case assessments of experiments that would use primates to produce human egg, sperm and brain cells. they will finalize proposal next month. bioresearchers

i do not like sony at all here. i hesitate to talk too much about videogames, because i think when i do, i'm too old, and end up sounding like mr. cleaver talking about the young kids. when i do talk to young people, they say xbox has a better experience, because the controllers are so much better. and also exclusives on some of the most popular games. i think it has advantages in gaming. the sony story is not about gaming anyway. this is a macro story about japan. so sony has been a terrible stock for a very long time. it's done well recently only because of what's going on in the japanese markets, specifically dollar-yen. the problem is in the last week or so, that's reversed violently, and with dollar-yen well below 100, i think they'll run into the same macr macro headwinds plaguing it for years. >> bill, keep in mind, this is a $20 billion company in terms of sony versus $290 billion for microsoft. you can move the needle here. already we're hearing that the playstation console is superior. far less onerous, $1

let's talk numbers on sony today, on the technical side. it's rich ross, global technical strategist, and on the fundamental, steve cortese, the founder of tjm. rich, walk us through. do you like the chart? >> i think this is exactly the time to follow dan loeb here. this is the best of both worlds. it's a compelling technical setup with an activist hedge fund kicker. it doesn't get any better than this. when we pull up the chart, you can see we come hot out of the gate. we're up 100% five months into the year. we have a textbook 17% correction along with the bear market decline in the nikkei, and we hold the 50-day moving average and the low end of that well-defined trend channel on the way up. that creates your compelling buying opportunity. we think you take out that resistance, triple-top resistance at 22.50. on our way to $27 a share. in the short term, we like the stock right here, we're buyers. >> what about you, steve? you like dan loeb? do you like kazuo hirai, or will you throw in the towel on all of this? >> i like dan loeb a lot

it is not a very good start to the summer for sony. this is a $130 million-budgeted film. $27 million is not a very good opening for will smith. it is going to need probably about $250 million overseas just for this thing to break even. so it's a bomb in the u.s., but it is a little too early to call it a bomb completely, because he does draw in crowds overseas. - that's the end of the tangent there. moving on to what to expect at the box office this weekend. "wedding crashers" fans have a big one to look forward to - "the internship" - and "the purge." now you saw "the internship." - i did. - what's your observation? - i think it's going to turn people against google in a big way. - why is that? - because the movie just really treats google as sort of almost like a disneyland paradise. it talks about many times in the film how it has the power to change lives and stuff like that. it's really ridiculous. people don't want to go to a comedy with this cast and see a commercial for google. and the movie's not very good on top of that, to

all these stocks that i thought were left for dead - trust me, i was the first one to think sony was going to go out of business, and the sony chart looks great as well - so a lot of these stocks that i thought were left for dead, the charts are lining up, and with the call-buying and put-selling activity, i want to play a reward-to-risk set-up on these stocks. - and i was impressed, as you mentioned earlier, that these stocks kind of hung in there on friday despite that big sell- off. so that was a good sign. - yeah, as the market sells off, everything sells off. on friday, apple sold off $5 within about 10 minutes. so the market sold off, the s&p 500 futures sold off 10 points in a heartbeat. so they sold off. on a risk-vs-reward set up, gamestop is the same way. gamestop is around $33. it had pretty good earnings. it rallied on earnings initially, then it sold off really hard. it looks like it's got a tail on the daily chart around this $30 level, so tight, tight stops on this, but planning on a reward- to-risk set-up, i think you can go up to the recent highs. - thank you, andrew
