i'm martin savidge in for don lemon. we have breaking news where some americans have been wounded in an apparent terrorist attack in a shopping mall overseas. [ gunfire ] this is the terrifying scene in nairobi, kenya, today. a group of armed men stormed this crowded mall and they started shooting. according to kenya's president the office there at least says that 39 people have been killed and 150 wounded. and there are americans who were inside that mall when the attack happened. they tell cnn that shots rang out and grenades exploded and that people hid in stairwells and under cars in the parking lot until police arrived. we are told that at least one of the attackers is dead. the rest are still said to be holed up inside the mall. and it is now past midnight in nairobi. we do have some indication as to who is behind this attack. an extremist group with ties to al qaeda posted a claim of responsibility on their twitter account. the group is called al shabaab. and it has been issuing threats for violence for years. mor

don? >> because of this, is this why they are so confident -- is this what makes them so confident about the type of chemical weapons used? >> reporter: that's part of it. but you have to also understand how they test for sarin and how they can be very confident in the samples that they take. experts say that these u.n. inspectors who were there can take blood and hair samples, brain tissue samples from deceased victims and run them through a device called a gas chromatography machine. even if that area of damascus was decimated by syrian army shelling right after the chemical attack, experts say it's not degraded to the point where you can't get an accurate test. they can grab samples from walls. they may not be prevented from getting an accurate sample. >> appreciate your reporting. secretary of state john kerry making the case for action abroad. cnn's elyse labott traveling with him. >> reporter: today, secretary kerry in lithuania met with all 27 ministers of the european union and he

this is the project that don was describing a little bit earlier. the sharp park -- sharp park is a unique project, a park for the city. it's located in pacifica but [speaker not understood] but is owned by san francisco. it includes 27 acres of wetlands. you can barely see it in the image above. that's the entire area of sharp park and the wetlands located to the west of [speaker not understood] in the blue area next to the coast. it also has a number of special status species including the california red legged frog and the san francisco garter snake. as don mentioned the fish and wildlife has provided us with a biological opinion and that includes 32 mitigation or cultivation measures. one of which is the up land habitat restoration. and to comply with the biological opinion, we need to complete that work by october 31st of this year with a short window during the summer months to do work. so we don't have an adverse impact on the special status species. the up land habitat restoration work includes three locations for a total of a half acre. you
