in an upscale san ramon neighborhood. kron 4's jeff bush is live in san ramon with the latest. jeff?? the property manager was taken to a local hospital for treatment. no other injuries have been reported. a major crackdown on second hand smoking in walnut creek. the city council initially passed an ordinance tuesday night that would prohibit smoking in all of downtown. and most other public areas in the city. a vote that is drawing mixed reactions. kron four's philippe djegal explains exactly where smoking will be outlawed. and, when the new ordinance could go into effect. soon. this could be illegal and considered an infraction in walnut creek. lighting up and smoking a cigarette downtown. the new ordinance probihits smoking in or near any businesses. outdoor dining areas. all recreational areas. like parks, playgrounds, picnic areas and sports fields. smoking will even be prohibited at multi-unit residential properties. that's apartment complexes, condos and duplexes. smoking on balconies and patios will be against the law. the city council has to vote on the new ordinance o

let's bring in jodi hernandez is joining us from san ramon. it's a pretty unusual story, jodi. >> reporter: it is very unusual. what is usually well-manicured lawns looks like a rototiller passed through but it's not manmade. san ramon's henry ranch neighborhood is mobilized to ward off vandals. but this gives dirty a whole new meaning. >> every night they come. >> reporter: these are the critters causing so much damage. hefty and hungry wild pigs. one neighbor's surveillance camera caught them in action just two nights ago despite a trap put on the front lawn to catch them, they devoured their midnight snack of insects and grub unphased. >> they don't even go near the phase. they just go, not interested, and tear up the lawn. >> reporter: his brand new landscaping turned upside down. >> it only takes them a few minutes to do this much damage. they are just extremely efficient, put their snouts down into it. >> you try to maintain your yard. >> reporter: the pig feeding fre frenzy has left a dozen neighbors under attack. >> they are destroying

the city of san ramon and the homeowners association have split the $8,000 cost to trap them. they have caught a half dozen but you can see, most root around the cages. the pigs are also unfazed by halloween masks, lights, fencing and sprinklers. all things the state suggests people try. even a liberal sprinkling of chili powder didn't work. >> maybe if that bothers them, maybe they won't come back? i don't know. fire crews still on the scene in san ramon of an early- morning fire. now it started three hours ago on crow canyon place. tara moriarty was the first reporter there and says a lot of police officers are out there now. >> reporter: good morning. there are police scattered throughout this strip mall. that was the starbucks worker who got to work and noticed there was smoke. these are all of the engines you see. here's why there are so many police. let's take a walk. this is where firefighters had to but through the front door when they first arrived. officers are standing guard. the fire broke out at 4:00 a.m. at a starbucks coffee shop. a worker opening the store, again, discovered the smoke at the back of the store and then called 911. firefighters busted open stucco on the outside of the wall right off 680. that's where they believe the fire started and spread inside the wall. when we got on scene, there was smoke in the bank and the cheesesteak shop next door. we wanted to make sure there was no fire extension there and made access to the businesses
