i'm matt keller in for eric thomas. >> i'm kristen sze. downed trees, power knocked out, cars hit by branches, all the result of a night of very windy weather across the bay area. and it continues. abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield starts off our team coverage in diablo. >> we had a tree down right here in the middle of this road and the last 30 minutes they've brought a chainsaw out here and managed to break it up into some pieces and move it out of the way. you can see it's still a mess out here. lots of debris that comes down along with these trees. and to show you a better example of that, look at this video we took overnight in oakland where a tree came down and also a lot of leaves and branches along with it. this happened at skyline and redwood road near highway 13 and when this tree came down, it even started a small fire that didn't do a lot of damage and was put out quickly. but when it comes down, it brings trouble with it. the winds were very powerful overnight, just causing all kinds of problems around the bay area. >> even c

matt keller has the story. >> the call to firefighters came after 7:45 this morning. flames erupted on monterey road in the inincorporated part of jant clara county. -- santa clara county. biggest changer -- danger for firefighters was live power lines. >> all electrocution because lines are in the way and they're live there is nothing we can do until pg&e shuts down the line. >> firefighters faced another obstacle. no water hydrants this, area lacks a good built in water system. so the call offered water tenders. what looks like giant kiddie pools were popped open and the tanks emptied into them, making water available in the fire engines and firefighters. they then leave to fill up again no. one was injured and despite the fire being at a lumber yard, very little lumber was burned. two cars were destroyed and another building described as an historical bunk house was damaged. firefighters did save this large barn. >> this is the old train depot. built in 1870. these are on the historical registry. they're old, historical buildings. >>> a fire took place here last su

matt keller joins us with that news. this is a week after the second death. >> yes, it does. safety is on the minds of workers. they say a few changes have taken place since the death at construction site. today, a new revelation that osha is taking another look at the investigation into the death of  worker back in june. >> workers started arriving in santa clara at the new 49ers stadium at 6:15. they are still dealing with the death of edward lake jr. last week. osha says the 61-year-old truck driver was killed when a bundle of rebar being unloaded by a fork lift fell off the truck and on top of him at 6:30 in the morning on october 14. since then, the start time has been moved back half an hour so 7:00 a.m. so this is more light. >> we are making changes with the lighting and stuff. that is a factor. >> each morning we do a team briefing: what are you doing in how will you be safe? safety is cue. you have to be thinking of your fingers and toes and that you want to go home. >> osha is shining new light on what happened when don white was killed by a counterweight of an el

abc7 news, matt keller, has details. >> police say this alleged incident took place at the almostty school during after school program two weeks ago. this investigation is not over. police say on october 18, a friday, a man was sitting with an elementary age girl when he kited her and touched her. on learning of this, the district removed him from contact with children and provided information to the san mateo police department. he was arrested a week later on friday october 25 at his home and faces charge of lewd acts with a minor under age 14. police are trying to determine if he has other inappropriate contact with any other kids. anyone with information is asked to call the san mateo police department. >> critics of the sheriff deputy handling with a 13-year-old boy carrying a pellet gun have troubling new piece of information this morning. katie marzullo, it is making some in santa rosa more angry. >> the police who are investigating the shooting say the sheriff deputy took only seconds after warning him to drop the gun. they are promising, now, more protests, vilifying the deputy, er

abc7 news reporter, matt keller, is in fremont. matt? >> the victim's car is still here as the investigation reaches into its 6th hour. as officers try to put together what led up to a man being shot in his car. the morning commute on southbound 680 took a violent turn at 5:15 this morning. police say it appears two drives got into a road rage incident. both pills on mission boulevard, a busy secretary -- intersection. a man pull add gun and shot several times at the man driving a mercedes hitting him once. the victim drove a block and stopped at the doughnut shop. >> we called the police. someone was shot. >> police say the victim is 59 years old and lives in pleasanton. he was taken to a local trauma center with serious injuries but is expected to survive. in the car was this german shepherd, the dog was not hit by gunfire and was taken to an animal shell step until he can be reunited with his owner. >> older dog, very sweet, our officers have made some connections with that dog this morning and they were sad to see it leave. >> police

live in menlo park, matt keller, abc7 news. >> thanks, matt. >>> 5:05 now. fire officials are trying to determine this morning what sparked a brushfire that jammed up traffic on the bay bridge. it broke out on yorba buena island before 8 last night. the fire quickly spread up the side of the island, crews are able to knock it down before it threatened any structures. the fire did slow down the sunday night commute across the lower deck of the bay bridge. fire officials say fireworks may have played a role in this blaze. >>> pg&e is turning off a major pipeline that runs through san carlos after the city won a legal battle a judge ordered the utility to shut down line 147 after safety concerns based on internal pg&e e-mails questioning the safety of an 83-year-old seam weld on that pipeline. the line that runs under residential britain avenue is similar to the one that exploded in san bruno three years ago, killing eight people. while pg&e insists the pipeline is safe, san carlos leaders say they want proof. >> we haven't got the answers to those questions. w

. >> abc7 news reporter, matt keller, joins us from lake merritt in oakland. matt? >> there is a picket line. i spoke with bart management and no negotiations are scheduled if now. that could change at any moment. that means workers are stilt striking. several showed up at the bart station at 4:00 a.m. and promised to picket until they have a deal. workers gathered at bart stations but rather than running the trains they were holding signs. a few hours earlier at 5:30, they were literally attacked. we saw a man upset of the strike throw a cone at them. half an hour later bart police arrested him. it wasn't all negative. several people driving by honked in support of the unions. union negotiators say talks broke down yesterday not because of the economic issues like wages and pensions but because of work rules. they say management is asking for too much and it could lead to unreasonable working conditions. >> what is your shift? what is your assignment? what is your job for the day? maybe you have a specialization in one area and you are asked to move to an area you

matt keller is on the scene. >> a worker cut down the trees that were damaged by the alleged drunk driver's car last night. today, the family of the two victims are just trying to cope with the sudden loss that left three teenagers without their parents. family members gathered near the scene this morning where their loved ones died 12 hours earlier after being hit by a car while walking their dog. the two victims of menlo park residents married more than 20 years and have three kids. the oldest is just 18. >> i am here for you. i said, i will build your father. a a 54-year-old hit the two with a car and hopped over the median and hit another car before crashing into trees. she was taken to the medical center with minor injuries and arrested for two counts of manslaughter and two counts of felony driving under the influence. >> if you do things at a legal age, fine, but you have to look at the consequences of what she does and how it affects other people. >> the couple's dog was also injured and taken to an emergency veteran clinic. they are optimistic he will survive. there is a hope for t
