dennis kneale is pondering the possibilities. dennis: your future is calling and its name is the internet. cable systems offer rich packages of dozens of channels but tomorrow they could be fat pipes that deliver on demand netflix stock health screening who streamed to get internet access. yesterday charter communications said internet subscriber base grew 26% last quarter. all of it from people getting access, no video and charter chief tom ellis telling analysts yesterday he is surprised so many customers went into an access without cable-tv channels and the service isn't good enough, it does reflect the future direction of the cable system business. contest meanwhile offers an introductory package called internet plus, they serve internet access with hbo and a few local systems running for $40 a month and netflix in talks to ally with other cable operators fear net streaming on the box. this is going in a certain direction here. adam: this is bad for a cable? will it be good for cable? dennis: could be great for a cable with s

dennis kneale has been covering this. is this a surprise? dennis: it is a shocker. now it was down 16%. the whole thing is what if they had a buyout and nobody even showed up? those stocks selling off on that because the buyout is over and replacing the ceo. it is hard to think of a ceo who has performed worse. he bet on a touchscreen smartphone when the real keyboard was blackberry mainstay. he bought a jet and the company was in trouble. let's jump up a few more paragraphs on that prompter. blackberry had agreed on a buyout from a large institutional shareholder, but fairfax had trouble raising the financing. so now they will loan a billion dollars to blackberry while they try to write itself. the big question is whether it can. sales fell, it came out huge and kicking the tires at blackberry, but they passed on it. microsoft, facebook, samsung, lenovo and qualcomm reported to have looked at blackberry or talked to the guys over there and are nowhere to be seen. adam: what does fairfax gain from this? >> your profit doesn't go out of business and you go to zero. a

dennis kneale has them. dennis? >> yes, wow, green mountain blowing the doors off wall street expectation,9 cents a share, vastly -- 89 cents a share, vastly higher than 75 cents a share wall street expected. revenue line coming in over a billion dollars. that is really nice 5% revenue growth instead of the 1% revenue growth wall street had been looking for. the company announces extra billion dollar share repurchase program, another good sign. overall the stock now looks to be up 5% or so in after-markets. this is a really big report and weird thing that their earnings could go so nicely. that is better than maybe 20% earnings per share growth on just 5% revenue growth. liz: they're declaring a dividend and they're declaring more share buyback here. these are big pieces of news all wrapped into this report. >> yeah. and the interesting thing was you thought there might be problems. starbucks might go into business against them with those coffee weird little things but starbucks licensed their technology. whole food

dennis kneale knows. >> reporter: two months after, it is now quite clear. and the loser is time warner cable. tw see revealing a loss of 306,000 subs in the third quarter, more than double the loss the year ago. during the blackout the keebler had insisted it is a mere flesh wound with no damage at all, but yesterday the company's chief operating officer admitted that the fee fight clearly resulted in short-term pain. direct tv, by contrast, gaining this. posting a record high earnings from cbs. so he says he wishes the problem with time warner cable could have been some more quickly but added the third quarter results speak for themselves. tracy: what does this mean when broadcaster star to renegotiate with their -- >> several dozen contracts. this could embolden other contracts -- contractors to take a hard line. bigger question is will the fallout from this give cable operators pause and make them less eager to fight these battles. it could end up costing them in the long run. tracy: no doubt. adam: coming up, most of us know that twitter literally flew

maybe dennis kneale will dive into this and what is going on there espn has been so strong and football is back on. i'm curiouss danny thoughts on this regarding what we're getting from disney. tom, i'm sorry. >> sure. sorry, are we talking groupon or disany? adam: disney, real quick, these disney numbers. something that popped out at me operating income from cable network actually decreased $95 million to 1.3 billion in the quarter s that anything to be concerned about? >> no. i think disney is still very well-positioned. liz: well-positioned indeed. let's flip back to groupon and more your bailiwick. living social is a competitor. we have them on all the time. they're not publicly-traded. as more companies decide, wait a minute we can provide a challenge to a groupon out there, what happens? are you having faith in the management at groupon. >> actually i have a lot of faith in the management at groupon. i think living social had its own challenges and i think that is one thing that enabled groupon to report such strong numbers in north america, really a lot of competitioo went away.
