we're now joined by doug ford, a city councillor in toronto. the mayor of brother rob ford. doug, i want to ask you about what you said in a little bit. first, set scene for us. what was it like to be in that room? how hard was it for you and your brother to listen to the severe criticism by really the rest of the city council about his behavior? >> well, when it comes to the city councillors here in toronto, there's a lot of politics being played, john. the person that is loading the charge is running for mayor against my brother. but he doesn't want to be honest with the people of toronto. i think there's a double standard here. i think rob has been very honest. very apologetic. and unfortunately when i ask the question, there's a double standard. i guess actions speak louder than words, and i guess his silence says everything. >> well, you say your brother has been forthcoming. he's been forthcoming lately, admitting he smokes crack after i guess sort of denying it for a while. there's a lot going on here. so he did deny it. at first, he was lying. now he's admitted to it

doug ford may in some way be the catalyst for everything that is happening today. the two of them have a radio show on news talk 1010 they air on sunday, which which rob ford apologized for bad behavior. he didn't admit 0 smoking crack cocaine. said he had been hammered at this food festival. and then this morning, his brother, doug ford, went on the radio, and took a real swipe at toronto's police chief, bill blair, saying he ills the most political police chief the country has ever even, certainly the city as seen, and he should step down because he has prejudiced the case against rob ford because he said the video was in existence. it could be that even though the police chief said i'm not going to respond to such attacks it could be somebody made a phone paul and said to rob ford, we know what you did on this tape, and if you want to take on the police chief, we'll make your life difficult. i've heard other reports that because his brother, doug, was not in his presence this morning, ford just decided he would call an audible and go out and do this and say,. >>

and doug ford saying himself he doesn't expect any kind of decorum out of this meeting. having said that, speaking to the deputy mayor, he's saying, look, he wants this to be reasonable, responsible, and very quick. but that does mean that he's going to be up there at city council basically having an inquisition about things that are very personal. >> extraordinarily. thank you. i don't want to keep you from your coverage. i know you're only in a short recess. one of the things that you've been hearing about is councillors who brought forth these motions. one of the councillors who brought forth one of those motions used to be a big supporter of rob ford. here in america we tend to think it's politicalized for a political gain for a political party, but in this case, maybe not so. there's a councillor, again a big supporter of rob ford, brought fords instead what you're hearing today, the demand that he apologize and take a leave of action. he just stood up right before paula left that room and had this to say about something eth was a personal confrontation between hims

we hung out saturday night with the ford boys and doug actually hinted at this. he said that he and his brother are declaring thermonuclear war against all their political opponents. they think they have enough true believers in the ford nation, fiscal conservatives like themselves, that they can run in each ward around the city using their style of populist retail politics and unseat everyone who voted against them. they actually got three allies on this last vote, in the last vote last week, to strip his emergency manager in powers. it was 41-2, rob and doug were the two. so from the outside, these guys seem like complete political outcasts. when you follow them around the so-called ford nation, you can see where they get their courage. they are beloved in housing projects, in blue collar neighborhoods, even in some rich fiscally conservative neighborhoods as well. but this is unlike anything we have seen. >> bill, we will hear more of you after this break. coming up next, medical news you need to know. experts scramble to untangle the confusion after problems

ford, blaring "staying alive" out of his suv which gave us a pretty good indication of what he planned to do. he went on to say he's made mistakes, never claimed to be perfect, and apologized for a couple high profile incidents that have happened in this city. one being he showed up drunk to a street festival in the east end of toronto called taste of the danforths so he apologized for being hammered there, apologized for text messaging while driving. he apologized for an incident in st. patrick's day two years ago where he was walking around the main floor of city hall with a half bottle of brandy, slurring, rambling. it was a security incident report that the star recently obtained. >> could he be forced out? >> there's nothing that city council can do to force out the mayor. there's not sort of any impeachment legislation. the only way that he can be removed is if he misses three consecutive council meetings, presumably if he's in jail. even if he's charged, they can't force him to leave. the one thing that is key, though, is in toronto, unlike, say, a city like new york, the mayor

well, i mean, the brother also, doug ford said they're going to spend a million dollars. he is a public official. i don't know where they're going to get a million bucks to fight this, but the legislature controls the purse, and they control the purse to the extent that if there's policy in toronto, then what they have the right to do is control where it goes. the only argument i think that rob ford is going to be able to make is that it is an abuse of legislative authority. i don't know that that's going anywhere, but you know what, he's turned into matt foley down by the river. i just don't know how he's going to be successful in this kind of challenge. if a court buys that the legislature, city council abused its authority, he may get it back, but there's not going to be decision in the near future, and i think this is going absolutely nowhere. >> he has something like another five years until the end of his term. maybe that's part of it. he is going to continue with the fight until he voluntarily walks off the job. so joey, if it is not ford challenging the legislativ
