the chp confirmed to ktvu that the suspect was armed with a knife and attacked an officer. that's when officers then shot him. he was airlifted to a hospital and is now being treated. ktvu crews are on the scene and we will bring you more details as we get them. >>> happening now -- the chp says crews are still a couple of hours away from completely clearing highway 24 in oakland. a big rig crash that morning closed three lanes in the westbound direction coming from orinda into oakland. the truck carrying gravel overturned and spilled its load around 8:40 a.m. just past highway 14. as many as seven other vehicles were also involved in the crash, traffic backed up for miles through the caldecott tunnel and all the way back into la fayette. >> just coming down 24, down the tunnel and from behind, i felt a big explosion and then there were a lot of accidents or incidents after that. >> got rear ended. i thought i was gonna die. >> was it scary? >> very scary. >> the highway patrol says there were no serious injuries and the cause of the crash is still under investigation. >>>
