that's where kyung lah is right now with hundreds of passengers still affected by the gridlock of the shooting. kyung, you've been there all days. there were times i saw you literally with hundreds of people around you sitting on the ground with their bags. the scale of the disruption is huge. >> reporter: absolutely huge. we just saw a small sliver of it, erin. at one point this entire street behind me was clogged with luggage and with people. you see these people still coming by with their carts? this is not typical. you don't see people going up and down this particular street or sidewalk outside of l.a.x. this just does not happen. they usually take taxis or buses trying to get to different places. where you saw casey wian a mile away of people walking, wheeling their luggage. this scene is being repeated here exponentially because this is the goal. what's happening now inside the airport, you have thousands of people who have been sitting outside the airport on the side streets and are now trying to catch flights out. it is going to be gridlocked throughout the night. it's going

certainly it will be a very long night out here. >> kyung lah, thank you very much. i want to bring in actor tim daly now. he was on the sitcom "wings. he was in the afrlt i have a picture that you took following the shooting that you put on twitter. so where were you and what exactly did you hear? >> i was in the first class lounge at virgin america. probably about 20 yards from where the shooting took place. one floor up. i had just come up from downstairs by the news stand, maybe 30 feet from where the shooter was killed, i guess. and i was standing, talking to people at the desk. there were these loud sounds. our reaction was, is that gun fire? about another 10 to 15 rounds later, it was obviously gunfire. so we stayed in there and the police started banging on the door but we did not know it was the police. there were a few minutes of confusion and fear not knowing who was banging on the door. they were very smart asking the police to show their i.d.s. they came in. they were amped up, fully ready to find somebody in there but they were very professional and qui

kyung lah is standing by in los angeles, one of the cities where protests are scheduled to take place. before you start here is what ceo bill simon told cnn earlier about the demonstrations. >> black friday we just talked about it, you know, millions and millions of people out shopping, is the big stage and walmart is a big player on the big stage. there are those who want to try to change an industry, a service industry like retail, it's not unexpected that they would be out on black friday at walmart can w something to say about that. >> it is interesting, kyung, that walmart seems to be targeted so often as opposed to target or kmart or other stores. it's always walmart that seems to be in the crosshairs. why is that? >> reporter: well, let's look at the employee numbers. very, very simply, target has approximately 300,000 employees in the united states, compare that toalmart wch hasapproximat. that, carol, is about 1% of the u.s. labor force, so when the ceo says a big stage, that's what he's talking about, but protesters who are going to be showing up here at this walmart says it

kyung lah is over at l.a.x. what's the latest? >> reporter: well, you can see that there is a little bit of a pathway in the crowd. the reason why is because some of those passengers, some who have been stuck on planes for five to six hours, they're finally coming out. they're finally coming out of the terminal. and all these people you see with rolly bags, luggage, they are trying to get on to flights. they are hoping, hoping that they're going to be able to take off today. some of them have later flights. they don't know. they're not getting a lot of information. when i asked people how are you learning about whether or not your flight will take off, they say we're just here hoping for the best. so it is still massive gridlock. you can see these people as they're coming off. they look quite tired. very frustrated as well. they say they understand that this is a very serious criminal case but they really are also experiencing quite a bit of airport gridlock. >> all right. we'll check back with you. our justice reporter is getting

kyung lah joins us now at l.a.x. >> is there still a huge backup from grounded flights? >> reporter: oh, yeah. it was 5 1/2 hours where nothing was taking off, landing, with the exception of some airplanes right above los angeles. so that's 76,000 passengers that simply had their air travel disappear. so they're here at the airport trying to figure out how to get in or out. then you have the passengers who are normally traveling. so yes, there is absolutely a backlog. it is a huge mess here at los angeles tonight. >> it looks dreadful. how are people handling the delays? what are people saying to you? >> reporter: it's a bit of a mixed bag. peopled in have been very very civil while this was all unfolding. they're trying to be collaborative, try to remember that this is a very serious incident that resulted in all of these delays. but at the same time, as people are coming off the planes, and some of these passengers have been stuck on planes 5 1/2 hours, they're incredibly frustrated because they didn't get any information from the airlines and they said it was quite fr

kyung lah is on the scene for us. a lot of passengers are still stranded there as this investigation continues. set the scene for us. what's it like at l.a.x. right now? >> reporter: well, let me tell you exactly where i am. i'm right outside terminal one, we're standing -- and you can see for yourself, wolf, a sea of passengers here. and these aren't just passengers who have recently arrived. the shooting happened five plus hours ago. a lot of these folks are international travelers. you can see that they're carrying their bags. there are even some children who are here. they have been stuck here. there hasn't been a lot of information so yes, this is a very important federal crime case but at the same time, this is also a story about hundreds, perhaps even thousands of people being impacted by one of the nation's largest airports grinding to a halt. i'm going to walk over to this gentleman over here, and you just -- we were just chatting a second ago. how long have you been waiting here, sir? >> we got to the airpor
