we're on northbound 280, and you're looking down the northbound 280 on ramp, highway 87. where you see all of the lights and the wrecker, that's where this man was hit and killed. it happened around 5:00 this morning. there are at least two, possibly three vehicles involved. what chp believes happened based on their conversations thus far with the drivers is one vehicle glanced this man, 26-year-old man as you mentioned, then the next one hit him square on, possibly a third did the same. as you can imagine he is still down there waiting for the coroner. they know he is 26 because they found his i.d., they know who he is but not releasing that information because there hasn't been a noticecation yet. chp does not know what he was doing. that area is an elevated portion of the roadway, so for him to get on the freeway he would have had to enter back here where we're at where you can get up a dirt embankment. there are homeless encampments in the general area, not clear whether he was a transient. this is according to chp. their initial impression is that he is not a homeles

northbound 680, it is a slow crawl. we have been waiting to get a new eto from chp for when they are going to be able to re-open the off-ramp but obviously it remains blocked northbound 680 that montague expressway off- ramp remains closed. traffic is jammed into san jose. it's right on the milpitas-san jose border where the accident happened. a big rig slammed into the guardrail and the sound wall and you can see investigators are out there now. it did a lot of damage and there's debris on the road taking so long to clean up and traffic is backed up for at least one exit. we can see it on the maps. southbound not impacted but northbound is very slow going and that traffic alert obviously still in effect. westbound 580 also pretty slow- and-go heavy this morning out of tracy on 205 and continuing past north flynn where there was an accident there. it is on the right-hand shoulder. once you get past vasco, though, sky one flew over and says that everything is free and clear towards the dublin interchange. if you are head

so two lanes open northbound 680 just before scott creek road. i just learned from the officer from chp here that the driver is suspected of driving under the influence. driving drunk and they say that drive hit two construction workers. you can see there is that flat bed truck behind me. the two construction workers were standing there when they were hit. this happened around 2:40 this morning. the two construction workers were on the right shoulder of northbound 680 before scott creek road when for unknown reasons a silver nissan traveled out of the lane and struck both of them. one worker was pinned against the nissan and his work truck. he died at the scene. the other man who was hit is suffering from minor injuries. we were told they were moving a road sign that alerts motorists to construction workers. chp says they were wearing their reflected vests. >> as far as we know both construction workers were wearing the required safety equipment. and were available at the time. its just a reminder motorists to be extremely careful when they see r

it rear ended a big rig also going northbound. and flipped end over end on the southbound lane where it collided with a honda crv. the person in the crv and the person in the bmw both died in this accident. this is what chp had to say. >> the bmw rear ends the big rig and goes end over end. jumps the center divide wall here and goes head on into a honda crv. >> reporter: we are told once again that both cars the big rig and the bmw were driving northbound and that is when the bmw collided, flipped over and hit the southbound car. we are told there is another car involved in that accident but that person is okay. the driver of the big rig was also okay. the driver of the big rig said to be in his 40s. the driver of the crv in their 70s. they say its too soon to say if alcohol was a factor. they almost continue the investigation and let us know. all we know is it was a high speed race that when the bmw hit the big rig and that is when it happened. the freeway should be shut down like this for another hour or so. we'll stay on top of
