abc's steve osunsami tells us what happened this time. >> reporter: another day, another mug shot for george zimmerman. tonight he's in jail again, arrested for what police say was domestic violence, allegedly assaulting his current girlfriend who called 911. >> what's going on? >> he's in my house breaking all my [ mute ] because i asked him to leave. >> she alleged that he had broken a table and at one point pointed a long-barrelled shotgun. >> reporter: she said he shoved her and then pulled his gun. >> we believe it was some type of separation in the relationship. >> reporter: ever since his acquittal this summer in the shooting death of 17-year-old trayvon martin, florida's most notorious recent defendant keeps finding trouble. there was this outside his wife's home in september in the middle of a messy divorce. >> he continually has his hand on his gun and says step closer, threatening all of us with his firearm. >> do you think that he feels that perhaps after the trial he felt a little more invincible? >> in my opinion he feels more invincible. i just think he's making some re

abc's steve osunsami has this story. >> reporter: what a wakeup call. >> how far is it sinking? >> it's just cracking. the whole house and the floors are cracking. >> reporter: it was five this morning, and a giant sinkhole was swallowing homes and destroying the peace in this florida neighborhood. >> it looks like a meteor hit it, or the earth opened. >> reporter: it opened up 70 feet wide and 50 feet deep. police rushed seven families from their homes. then they asked for quiet, while they listened to see if it's still growing. >> right now we're asking everyone to stay in place except for the homes we have evacuated. >> reporter: this is as close as we can get to the sinkhole because officials here believe it is still moving. you can see the pool that everyone is talking about there that crashed into the center of this. you can see the pool cleaner still over there. it's very, very deep. sinkholes happen all over america. this one was caught on camera in louisiana sucking trees into swamp. but florida is sinkhole central, and this is the area they call sinkhole alley, with a

steve osunsami is outside of tampa. steve, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, dan. they're already at work here in the rain, beginning to tear down that second home that nearly fell into that sinkhole. families here who have been fighting this sinkhole issue for years, have beyond frustrated. authorities here, carefully tearing down two of the homes that were nearly swallowed by the sinkhole outside tampa. they are filling the hole with sand. and nearly 60 feet deep, it could take days. >> of course, i'm upset. >> reporter: the dupree family is beyond frustrated. they first saw the cracks and heard the creeks in 2011. the insurance company agreed they had a sinkhole. but disagreed on how it should be fixed. the family lost in court. and the work had just started this week, too late to save the home. >> the stress of dealing with it every day. and the stress of having to deal with fighting the insurance company to do the right thing. >> reporter: just a few miles up the highway, the ferraros have a sinkhole growing underneath them. an engineer says their home is read

abc's steve osunsami has her story. >> reporter: this morning, a mother's plea for freedom. >> this is my life i'm fighting for. this is my life. and it's my life. and it's not entertainment. it is my life. >> reporter: marissa alexander, the other face of florida's controversial stand-your-ground law, telling cnn, she was defending herself, when she fired a warning shot during an argument with her husband in december 2010. >> he put his hands around my neck. >> reporter: alexander's lawyers argued she was standing her ground. the florida law that was widely discussed before the george zimmerman trial down the road in sanford. but didn't work here. the mother of three has been jailed and away from her children since february of 2011. sentenced to 20 years in prison. not for murder. but for firing into a wall at her home. >> drop all the charges! today, she'll face a florida judge once again. this time, begging him to set her free while she waits for a new trial. an appeals court ruled in september that the original judge gave the jury wrong instructions. in court papers filed tuesday,
