tom fuentes is still with us, our cnn law enforcement analyst. are you surprised, tom, that this is still going on as intensively as it is approaching one hour into this incident? >> reporter: wolf, i would question whether or not this may have already ended and the reason i say that is watching the video feed of the area around the terminal, they're bringing passengers out, putting them on buses. they seem to be fairly nonchalant about it. if they thought they still had someone running around that airport that has a high-powered rifle or explosives, there would be much greater urgency on the part of law enforcement authorities to make them run to that bus, get those buses out of there. you have people looking like they're going on a vacation excursion here boarding the l.a.x. buss. so lease a good possibility that this is already over on the inside of that terminal and they've just not said so publicly. the police may be aware of it but the public and media may not be aware of it yet. it's my opinion looking at what appears to me to be a lack of

tom fuentes made this point. here's where he gets disabled. food court here, burger king somewhere around here. look what's behind him. you've got gates all over the place here. people in all these gates. you've got jetways. and we don't know how many planes might have been sitting there. according to tom fuentes, if he gets past here and gets into the gate area, again could have shot many people in here, could have gone onto a jetway, possibly onto a sitting plane. and tom says that planes that are sitting at these gates often you're able to walk in and the cockpit doors we know that they're secured during flight, closed. but when they're sitting in these areas the cockpit doors are open sometimes with pilots sitting in them. tom laid out a scenario where he could have gotten into one of these planes and possibly even hijacked it with a pilot sitting in there. a lot of caveat es to that of course. there could be service vehicles attached to a plane. a flight crew maybe not there. but tom says when you get in there and you pull a gun on a pilo

he's over at the magic wall along with our cnn law enforcement analyst, tom fuentes. guys, you're mapping out how all of this went down. >> that's right. according to patrick shannon, the police chief of l.a.x. airport, the shooter made his way in at the beginning, at the lead here of the terminal. he could have come in through the front area, could have come in through an exit. they're not quite sure yet. began opening fire after he opened up a bag and pulled out an assault rifle according to the police. then shot his way past tsa passenger screening. tom, i will bring you in here. tom is also, we should tell viewers, a former s.w.a.t. team member with the fbi who dealt with airport security. first of all, you heard jim sciutto mention just a moment ago tsa officers are not armed. obviously if he's shooting, he gets past here easily and should they rethink this rule? should they be armed at this point to be able to stop someone here? >> tsa's position over the years is that leave that to armed police officers who have the training and the shoot/don't shoot firearms t

. >> let's bring in cnn law enforcement analyst tom fuentes in washington. tom, is he right? should we now worry that a swarm of terrorists could barge into an airport and start shooting? >> hi, victor. essentially he's right, you have one terrorist on his way to departure area at the gate which means he's very close to being able to get to aircraft. and some of those aircraft may have had open doors with pilot it's in cockpit, preparing to take off. and if one person can get through tsa and get that far into the terminal, into the departure area, what would two people do, what would three people do especially with assault rifles. so his point if 12 trained people like the mumbai attack in november of 2008 had arrived in a shuttle, jumped out on the sidewalk, ran into the airport, yes, really not going to encounter significant law enforcement. you know, we don't know when. in this case, this individual gets past tsa. and we're not sure how many armed police officers are in that terminal area. but they certainly were not in close proximity to the tsa location where they were s

tom fuentes is joining me. he's a cnn law enforcement analyst, former fbi. tom, you heard multiple people speaking just then at the news conference. what jumped out to you? >> hi, brooke. i think the fact that so far it appears to be one lone shooter, not multiple people involved. not a huge conspiracy. you know, that is hopeful that that's the case, and not other people out there with guns potentially threatening other people. so that pretty much is a big story here. the second thing is whether or not the confirmation is true about it being a tsa officer that had been killed in that. but as mentioned earlier, those officers are unarmed as they operate the magtometers and the other screening equipment at airport checkpoints. so someone with an assault rifle would have no problem shooting at them, overwhelming them, and getting past them, if you will, and penetrating airport security. even just one person, much less if it was multiple. and by the time they get to that checkpoint at the machines, there is no security earlier in the process. they get out of the
