a spokesperson for governor christie said today that the campaign for re-election for governor christie and the governor himself, they all had no idea this was going on, no knowledge of it at all. as this chris christie administration story gets weirder by the day, the big picture here, the reason the story is still around to get weirder and weirder by the day is that there is still no explanation forthcoming from anyone for why two lanes on the busiest bridge in the world had to be randomly closed, causing traffic mayhem for a week, if it wasn't just a neener, neener, vindictive political move. governor christie has been insistent from the beginning that the idea this was political retribution is a ludicrous idea. i mean, can you imagine somebody in the chris christie administration being so petty, just over politics? can you imagine that kind of a petty, vindictive, nasty little abuse of power? can you imagine it? it's getting easier to imagine now, because this is not shawn boburg's website, and this is not the website of the executive director of the port authority of new york and n

christie would like this story to please go away. and reportedly he is unhappy about the role of new york state employees of the port authority, who have been advancing the investigation and trying to get to the bottom of it. governor chris christie, reportedly does not want that. and he has been trying to make this go away by making it seem hilarious even though he is privately on the phone with his fellow governor on the other side of the bridge saying how much he would look governor cuomo to weigh in to make this thing go away. it is still kind of a hilarious story. but becoming significantly less hilarious for governor chris christie. how long can he go on before he actually explains what happened here? there is still is no explanation for what happened here that makes any sense and seems to be born out by the facts. what happened. and when is the governor going to explain it?

chris christie leading male voters by 12 points. so how concerned should both parties be about these numbers? and let's just remember who won iowa during the republican primary before. that was rick santorum. >> right. i think between the two parties, i think the democrats should be a little bit more worried about the fact that they are trailing or at least hillary was trailing by nine percentage points in this poll. that i think is a reverberation from the republicans' continued attacks on obamacare in particular. but i think, you know, as we go forward, you know, the more we learn about chris christie, as he continues to be vetted over the next year and some change by the media, by democrats, the more those poll numbers will start to fluctuate. he will start to slip a little bit at different points. he will start to go up. i think for republicans, they're not surprised that hillary has such a commanding lead among women and they would continue to try to close that gap over time. but let's remember this is iowa and this is where on

new jersey governor chris christie, of course. christie edges clinton actually 48% to 46% among registered voters. that's a statistical dead heat but nonetheless, early bragging rights as christie begins a busy 2014 schedule crisscrossing the country. what makes him so much stronger against clinton than other republicans? don't underestimate name recognition. he's been in the headlines a lot because of his big recent re-election win in new jersey. digging deeper, he does beat clinton by 26 points among independents and by nine points among suburban voters and runs much closer to her in the northeast than any of the other republicans. so these numbers, a nice christmas present for governor christie and for the most part, they should also give secretary clinton a bit of holiday cheer. but this cautionary note. at this point in the 2008 presidential cycle, meaning polling conducted in late 2005, hillary clinton was the runaway leader among democrats. giuliani, the early republican front-runner. barack obama at that point, a freshman
