any reason to own shares of mcdonald's? let's start talking numbers on the fundamentals, zach head of global strategy for invest net, carter for oppenheimer. any reason to own shares of mcdonald's. >> i think if you want a really safe stock that pays a really modest dividend, then perhaps, although as we saw safety is defined as not doing anything. i don't think mcdonald's is going anywhere any time soon. ten years from now who knows. this has been true for the past few years. this was a good stock to be in when the world was falling apart and they people were looking for things they knew would be around whether or not the financial system imploded. once you get through that and need to look at both mcdonald's fundamental's and others which is the challenging of fast food, challenging of changing diets and patterns. a globe relatively saturated and where does growth come from? for these reasons this is not going to be the end of the world if you happen to own this, but it's certainly not where i would look to in a universe

this is something mcdonald's could do tomorrow. they could sit down with their workers, participate in what's really been an american tradition of workers an businesses bargains together to restore higher wages for the jobs that are really forming the core of the economy today. that's what we did in the manufacturing sector the beginning of this economy and it really built the american middle class. it's what we need to do now. manufacturing jobs have gone away. it's fast-food jobs, retail jobs, service sector forming the core of the u.s. economy. those are the jobs we need to raise wages for. >> jack brings up an important point, seven out of ten growth occupyings through 2020 are low-wage jobs. this the american job market. the president has supported this, we have a lot of democrats who have come out and supported thchl i think it is much harder, actually, for conservatives to dismiss the minimum wage in the way they dismiss other parts of the social safety net. this is not an entitlement program. there's economic stimulus. i th

"the washington post" reports today that federal prosecutors told virginia governor bob mcdonald and his wife last week that they would be charged in connection with the gift scandal that has plagued him, but "the post" says after an appeal from mcdonald's attorneys, the justice department has delayed the decision about whether to indictment them until next year. mcdonald admits receiving some $150,000 in gifts and loans from a prominent donor but says he has given it all back, even though he insists it was all legal. >> i've taken responsibility for things that i would have done differently, you know. i've repaid loans. i've given back gifts, everything i think we did was compliant with the law, chuck, to the degree that i undermine trust in people, i have apologized. i think i would do some things differently. i think we need to change some of the ethics rules in virginia to provide more clarity and certainty for donors and office holders alike. >> joining me live, nbc news senior political editor mark murray. you had some people confused that, first, this was legal under virginia
