i think, oracle's performance is always a function of oracle's execution, of, you know, kind of oracle's market position and trends in the marketplace and also since oracle is such a bellwether it is a such a huge battleship. macro conditions are very important and i.t. demand conditions. i think part -- we've seen on oracle, over the last year or more is very much, you know, a substantial part of that is due to i.t. demand conditions. you know, which remain sluggish and i think buyers remain cautious. we've seen some evidence of improvement in the second half of the calendar year, especially in some much our mid-cap names, but you know, overall i would say buyers are still pretty cautious. david: right. oracle, cisco, ibm, are suffering from an economy that is not growing strong as it should. steve koenig, wedbush securities. great to talk to you. thanks for coming in. appreciate it. >> thank you. liz: it was a different kind of premier for amc entertainment. the company making its stock debut ending the day higher after the ipo was launched. it is the last ipo of 2013. why now though?

the biggest one in history was oracle. oracle has been one of about 50 companies that transferred to our market over the last couple of years. we continue to see if low companies. it is worked by the number of new listings and ipo path that we have had over the course of the year. >> i would imagine the size of oracle dwarfs what the new ipo's have done. >> it is a large company and it trades really well. it has been a great partner, another big technology name in the network of names we bear. talk to me about what the sales process is when you meet a company. what is the message you give to them? >> this is a relationship business. everyone of these transactions is safe and we are building those relationships over the course of 1-2 years before the ipo. we know the management teams are at work for the equity firms and we talk a lot about the value of this as a platform. for us, the focus on an is making sure that process is seamless, transparent, and reliable and trustworthy. >> what do you see next year in terms of the d

is there a big acquisition on the horizon for oracle? they've been real quiet and i think that could be another key ingredient in the recipe for success. >> what about this idea of going to ed h ed to head with the likes of amazon and rack space? do you applaud that? >> look, anything that amazon is touching is kind of viewed as socksic within the incidenter price market. i think that's a little perception reality. but with that said, they have to be offensive and defensive. they have to go after that head on. oracle has been a -- you know, a company that over the last, you know, 15, 20 years has really done a great job taking the threats on and being able to kind of, you know, escape to where the talk is going. that's what i think they're doing here is recognizing the landscape and changing their product strategy accordingly. >> thanks for that, daniel ives. pedro, stocks were an underprmper yesterday in the states. who do you make of the sector? you love apple, but you have concerns about that, as well. >> i love apple as a customer, n

let's get out to josh lipton who hooz the news on oracle. >> oracle just reporting. let me get you those numbers. the street was looking for 67 cents on $9.2 billion. oracle reports 69 krefrcents on billion. new software licenses and cloud subscriptions down. smack in line from what analysts were looking for. revenue from hardware, $17.4 million. analysts were looking for $16.8 million. i'll keep combing through the numbers and get back to you. >> thanks, mr. josh lipton. mr. -- i almost did it again. >> you did. >> doctor, what do you make it -- >> you can call me anything but late for dinner, kelly. these are great numbers out of oracle. not spectacular. we did see unusual activity going into it. we cited someone sold a lot of put spreads in this stock which means they thought the stock wouldn't leap but would hold a level and/or trade higher. i would say they're good numbers. the volatility in this thing is way down from where it was. normal moves are about 7%. they were only pricing in 4% for this move. >> what do you think is going on here, stephanie? >> i think

shares of oracle are heading a new 52-week high. it reported earnings and revenue that beat analyst estimates for its fiscal second quarter and offered in-line guidance for the current quarter which was reassuring to investors. oracle has been trying to grow with web delivered software business. also darden restaurants shares are falling. that is after the company reported earnings and said it would look to spin off or sell its red lobster chain. the red left her business has been struggling. in the second quarter, same- store sales there fell by about 4.5% even as sales at olive garden and longhorn steakhouse were still on the rise. says the way that red lobster is modeled is not the same as the rest of their business of they would like to separate it from the rest of the company. the company is also pulling back on growth and olive garden and will not open anymore new olive gardens and reducing growth in the other chains. there is 705 red lobsters generating $2.6 billion in revenues last year. that is what a potential buyer would
