it is much lower than that romney. you can see with a positive comments, the positive sentiments spiked. after that first debate, you can see that conservative leaning twitter posters, they were excited. and they were posting positive things and it dropped off but you can see it's bike again with the debates. we are not interested in the overall trend of how conservative toasters posted. we wanted to look at tea party versus gop and here is where our findings overlap with that of the previous discussion. if you look in the far right comment -- column, the ratio of positive to negative tweets, tea party versus gop, they were equally as negative toward brock obama. it did not matter if you hash tagged gop or teaparty. same thing with mitt romney. exact same thing, the positive to negative ratio. positive statements to negative statements. if you look at this that you can see a bit of a division. tea party members were more critical of both parties compared to establishment republicans. what does that mean? it means we ha

romney trimmed 3/10 of 1% off the president's lead. fast forward and the president was riding a wave. the lead averaged points. two days later, the consulate was attacked and the ambassador killed, leading to a wave of criticism. they questioned whether they could turn the tide and game changers. the 47% remarks and super storm sandy struck. where did it leave us? it turns out it was the same place we were when the conventions ended the. the president won by over four point, almost the same margin he had in september. according to the gamble, there were 68 incidents that were labeled game changers and in the end, none seemed to change anything. lynn? i will start with you. congratulations on your book. it's a wonderful antidote to the books out there. let me start with the idea that nothing mattered. nothing mattered? >> we have to be a little careful saying things like nothing mattered. the story that john and i are trying to tell in the gamble is that all of these things that the candidates do matter. it's just in 2012 in particular,

we should have seen more nominations for romney than others. when we look at these grassroots groups there is a lot of internal disagreement and i do not think that is changing. i do not see anything that says these guys are becoming more subsets either within or across subsets of the republican party. in the democratic party i think they are more unified, but going back to my argument about candidates, hillary clinton is a strong front runner. if she runs it is apparent who a lot of democratic groups will support, but if she does not run, for health reasons or if her husband is not able to campaign, if that is the case, look at that race. it looks a lot more wide open than it might right now and you will have a much more competitive primary. that is what i would look at. these things are so interactive. we cannot just look at one thing out there eerie of the parties are diverse. we tend to stereotype with these images -- images, but they are really broad-based. >> i just want to comment on one thing that william brought up, it is interesting t
