john was inducted into the gallery of outstanding montana concert at the montana hall of fame in 2003. this is a really neat thing they do. they have sort of a photograph and a sheet, a plaque i should say in the rotunda of montana is really gorgeous big capitol building. that only two or three dozen of such individuals. on clarke is one of them, and allen will join him in 2015. they are the only family members that are in this rotunda. the others are folks venture whose names you will know. gary cooper, charlie russell himself, randall stewart. and so the clarke's, two of them, two out of 30 something. to 1-15th, that's math i can even do, are commemorated in the gallery. so today, the clarke's i associate with the piegan history, am rights massacre but their names are also etched in the landscape in northern montana. if you've been to glacier national park you maybe have seen not helen which is in the upper valley or helen lake which is in the upper reaches of the swiss guard foun down or lake il which is in the southwest corner named for health and horace's younger sister, isabel.

this is why i was in montana that summer. the problem was i became very bored with the story which is a bad sign in the new project. adding to my displeasure is the fact i was living in on the glamorous life that is the typical of an academic eating tv dinners and eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for lunch every day and allowing myself only one diet coke in an effort to stretch my grant from the historical society as far as i could. what i wanted to make certain that i could get by in my month in helena entirely on the stipend from the historical society and was also a way for my wife and my daughter at that time. i felt i needed something to show for my month in helena. one day through my stay i decided to abandon the cypress hills massacre to see what else was in the historical society from the friends that worked in western history of the great repository and the west. it is a really beautiful building that is located in the shadow of the capitol. but i thought i will see what else i can find in the historical soc

there is going to be a lot of talk this week about clark and joe montana . but today we talk about mike gay and cumberland and all the men and women that are before us today that have had great pleasure in giving the city so much pride in maintaining what is the oldest stadium in america i believe at this point. i think lambeau field is a little older but it recently underwent quite an extensive renovation. you have done an amazing job in giving the city just so much pride in particular the last couple of decades when let's be honest, you were responsible for stewarding a stadium that has been long past it's prime. you have do it with such incredible pride and such incredible commitment and you are our unsung heroes. when 70 thousand people show up at candle stick to see the 49ers and everything works and all the details that nobody appreciates and understand, it's because of the incredible work that you have done. so you are really our hall of famers today. we really want to celebrate this team. on behalf of the mayor and on behalf of sports fans everywhere
