and frederick, maryland, your temperature is 20 degrees. 25 is our temperature at reagan national airport with a wind chill at 25. the wind is relatively calm. there is a thin veil of cloud cover this morning. just some high thin clouds, no big deal to report. i think that will thin out a little bit through the afternoon. manassas, 34 degrees, really? let's make sure that that is working properly. that is a little high compared to the other temperatures across the region. 24, 25 in the seat, and 22 degrees in frederick. so we are making progress. the cold air is spreading all across the east but there is a bubble back here and to the plains. we will watch temperatures slowly turned to normal temperatures. by the weekend, we have a few things to get through first. in the satellite picture, you see the high thin cloud cover that i think will thin out. we have wintry weather happening across parts of the deep south. of course, mardi gras going on in new orleans. the next system is making its way across the mountains. a coastal system could impact us on thursday night and into friday morning

on january 2, 1893, frederick douglass rose to the delivery speech dedicating the haitian pavilion to the world's fair. douglas was intimately involved in planning the pavilion. he took the opportunity in his speech to negate the common stereotype that haitians were lazy barbarians who devoted their leisure time to voodoo and child sacrifice. what is more significant is that douglas used the speech to reflect back on the past century of slavery emancipation. douglas after all was born a slave and he had won international fame through his writing and oratory in the service of lack of emancipation. as the most prominent black spokesmen and statesmen of the waterworld douglas had no difficulty in identifying one of the central events in the history of emancipation and the right we should not forget or he speaks, we should not forget that the freedom you and i enjoy today, the freedom that 800,000 colored people enjoyed in the british west indies the freedom that come on the color of race the world over is largely due to the brave stance taken by the black sons of haiti 90 years ago when
