news4's dorothy spencer spoke to a mother who is sharing her story for the first time, hoping to save other parents from heartbreak. >> every day just get up and -- his car is out front. i look at it and horrible. >> reporter: it's been six months since terry haffar lost her son to a heroin overdose. >> you just don't pick it up and use. they know because it will kill you. >> reporter: 20-year-old steven haffar, a volunteer firefighter in st. mary's county started abusing prescription painkillers after he lost his girlfriend. >> his girlfriend was killed in a car accident three years ago, and he was a first responder to the car accident. he went to pills for painkillers to relieve the pain. >> reporter: eventually, haffar got clean. but then in september in ocean city, he overdosed on heroin. he was in a coma for ten days before he died. >> there was just nothing that anybody could do to keep him alive. >> reporter: haffar broke down as she shared her story with hundreds of people at the first ever drug summit in st. mary's county. it was organized to educate parents about the rising

let's check with spencer, the ceo of zill low. welcome back to "mad money." >> thanks, jim. >> spencer, we have had tremendous growth here. traffic growing, 57%. at the same time, we had a fed meeting today and spent, spencer, a lot of people's perception was that rates have to go higher, impact on zillow, what would it mean? >> the 30-year fixed is 4.2%. a year from now, 5%. mortgage rates are definitely going up. if you take a long-term view, it's still very low. yeah, it's going to cool housing a little bit as mortgage rates go up. there's been this backlog of buyer's interest the last couple of years. >> okay, there's also a lot of talk there could be an affordability problem. a lot of people still rely on case-shiller home index. you're actually the keeper of home prices in this country, is it affordability an issue? >> home values bounced off the bottom very quickly. we're up 25% from the bottom. right now, home values are increasing about 6% year on year. so, the rate of appreciation is slowing, but it's still quite high re

spencer? pitter patter of rain drops evident. >> we love this. as a matter of fact down on embarcadero, puddles are forming. this is not a heavy rainfall. it's stety. this is an area of heaviest concentration. we've got rain moving towards san francisco now. and here is a live view where it's breezy and rainy. and a live view from our camera, right across the street from us looking towards bay bridge. these forecast features periods of rain continue overnight. we had a break tomorrow afternoon and wednesday. but look at this trail of moisture. extending back towards hawaii is bringing a steady stream of moisture. another bit of help in reducing our rainfall. rain continues to move through, look at this, 5:00 in the morning start of rush hour, rain wide spread from north bay and south ward and eastward out into inland east bay. and mid day, rain moving northward. a dry afternoon. and totals perhaps as much as three quarters of an inch. and less than a tenth of an inch in the south bay. overnight tonight, showers, low temperatures on the mild side.

. >> news 4's darcy spencer is live where crews spent a third day searching. >> reporter: as you can, it is a rainy, gloomy, nasty day here in washington, not the kind of conditions that would be good for a ground search of this massive park, so that search has been called off for the entire weekend. no ground search, instead they are using dive teams to go into the park and search the ponds. this is 700 acres a lot of ground to cover and a lot of ponds. police say it's possible the man she was with khalil tatum could have killed her and buried her body here. she was last seen march 1 and was in the company of khalil tatum. he was a janitor at the homeless shelter where her family was living. he is still on the run, wanted for the murder of his wife in oxen hill. last night police searched a room at the days inn motel nearby here in northeast washington where tatum had recently stayed. there was no word on what if any evidence was collected during that search. the search here at the park has been called off at least for today, they are expected to be back out here tomorrow, again, wit

darcy spencer is live in washington. what are the latest details on this one? >> reporter: we did just get a briefing from the lieutenant at the homicide unit at the crimes branch in southwest washington. he did not provide a lot of details, just basic information about each killing, he said they are working 24 hours a day to get the cases solved but they need witnesses to come forward to help them make arrests. in t since the beginning of the year, there's been 25 homicide, just in the last five -- billy harris found dead at 9th and decatur streets. andre mcentire was murdered, police say he suffered trauma to the head. and two brothers were gunned down in the 500 block of lee street northeast. the shootings happening just outside a church where worshippers were attending a children's service. on wednesday two teens were killed in separate incidents. 17-year-old jonathan adams was stabbed to death on halle terrace. d.c. police are asking for the public's help in getting these cases solved. >> every murder that occurs in the district gets a great deal of attent
