tom kierein's going to tall us about springlike weather. tom? >> maybe it worked. it's about 30 degrees warmer than it was yesterday morning at this time. in the weather center, i've been closely tracking storm team 4 radar showing areas of rain beginning to move in to our western suburbs. right now, we get sprinkles just from north of quantico through near dale city and woodbridge. then into fairfax county. most of fairfax county getting light sprinkles as it montgomery county, howard county, scattered sprinkles in prince george's county now, northern anne arundel. there's an area of steadier rain that's farther south and west of the metro area. now just about to come in to front royal, warren county, and farther south of there toward luray. and on toward harrisonburg. and the leading edge of that steadier rain into the metro area in about two hours, ten minutes or so. and have an umbrella with you. a cool morning, we have temperatures in the 40s to near 50 degrees in prince george's, montgomery, fairfax counties and the district of columbia. we'll stay in the 40s

. >>> storm team 4 meteorologist tom kierein is tracking some winter weather right now. it could cause problems for some of you as you make your way to work this morning. tom, what are we looking for? >> good morning. temperatures are a little bit below freezing, some of the higher elevations. elsewhere, we're in the mid to upper 30s, above freezing. the storm team 4 radar showing these little speckles of green. these are zones of some very light green. it's falling into the areas at the higher elevations that are above freezing. that's where there may be just a little bit of slick not, maybe a little bit of light icing forming this. it is very light rain that is falling there now. these counties in this lavender color, under the winter weather advisory through 11:00 this morning, includes frederick and maryland as well as frederick in virginia. loudoun county, northern fauquier, rappahannock, points north and west until 11:00, the threat of icing mainly at the higher elevations. there could be some slick spots on some of the roads and sidewalks. and just a little bit of

storm team4 meteorologist amelia segal is in for tom kierein. amelia, i don't know if it's the wind or what, but it seems colder than all winter today. >> i think it's the shock, barbara, going from near 70 degrees yesterday to temperatures right now only feeling like they're in the teens and single digits. this is temperature. we're in the 20s across the area, washington coming in at 27. but it is still windy and breezy outside. winds will die down somewhat throughout the day, but we are in for a breezy thursday. right now, winds gusting anywhere from about 30 miles an hour in leesburg up to almost 40 miles an hour in gaithersburg. so when you factor in those strong winds, this is how it feels. only about 9 degrees in ft. belvoir, feeling about 12 degrees in washington. 14 in college park. the good news, at least there is beautiful sunshine today. look at this look from our reston camera. not a cloud in the sky. wall-to-wall sunshine. and it will remain sunny for the rest of the day. but temperatures will only warm into the mid-30s. a high temp

storm team4 meteorologist tom kierein joins us now with a look at the messy weather that we were expecting. did we dodge the bullet, tom? or do we still have that on the possible agenda? >> right in the metro area, we're going to miss it, just to our south this morning there was a light coating of sleet and some light icing from fredericksburg west towards charlottesville. a live view over washington from the tower camera overlooking northwest washington, a lot of cloudiness, and panning up, you can see there is some sun shining through the high overcast. the clouds from an area of low pressure that is producing some rain right across southeastern virginia, and some persistent snow and some sleet, gray and pink zone, in southwestern virginia, where they've had 3, 4, 5 inches of snow. east of there, it's been all rain. it continues to advance to the north. now, coming into the northern neck, an area of light rain. that's going to croft into southern maryland over the next hour or two, and farther west where they are getting some of the snow, that is gradually heading farther to the north an
