he stopped here and shot into the deli where he killed christopher michael martinez. it's now the site of one of the many little memorials that have been left around the town. flowers fill the bullet holes in the window. one of those who survived the attack described that moment captured on in-store video. >> pow, pow, pow, pow, pow, pow. stop for two, three seconds. it picked up again. it went for maybe 15, 20 seconds. he was almost smiling like he was happy about what was going on. it was very chilling. i'll remember that day for a long time. if you look at the video, the bullets actually coming over my head breaking the glass of coolers as i'm sliding under it. all that glass actually broke and landed on my back and head. first two bullets that came through hit christopher martinez in the chest. i took my shirt off. we applied the pressure to his wounds to stop the bleeding while his friends were actually giving him cpr. >> reporter: this is a video of chris michael martinez that his father richard took and has on his phone. the 20-year-old was a keen sportsman. >>

catherine brianne cooper, veronica elizabeth weiss christopher ross michael-martinez, all of them, uc santa barbara students attending college there. the guns, three of them, all purchased more than a year ago according to the time line from federally licensed dealers in three separate cities. there was a 9 millimeter -- there were two sig sauer 9 millimeter semiautomatic handguns and one glock. the amount of ammunition startling. for the sig sauers, 34 loaded magazines each with ten rounds in them. for the glock, seven loaded magazines with ten rounds inside of them. the sheriff made clear that, in fact, because this young man was not institutionalized, there was nothing that showed up on his chart saying that he was prevented from purchasing the guns. most interestingly, elliot rodger apparently had contact with sheriff's deputies three times in the last year starting in july 2013. one time he claimed that he was the victim of an alleged assault, however, it turned out that he was apparently the alleged aggressor and sheriff's deputies dropped that. in january he accused his roommat

michael-martinez. mr michael-martinez was a u.c.s. b student. foot patrol deputies heard the shooting and responded to vet the incident. as they arrived at the scene, they witnessed the suspect, who at that time was unknown, fleeing east bound in his suspect vehicle, a black bmw. the suspect conditioned towards location number four at the top of the loop, where he fired multiple round at two people on the side walk. now, the suspect drove his vehicle on the wrong side of the road and it was parallel to the sidewalk when he shot from the driver's wound. the suspect continued forward and he turned south bound on to elembarko dero, eastbound to delplyar to location number five, where he brandished a handgun at a female victim. the suspect fired additional rounds, turned his vehicle around and started to travel westbound on delplyar. a lone sheriff's deputy responding to the area on foot was then taken under fire by the suspect. the sheriff's deputy returned fire and the suspect drove off westbound on delp
