so let's start with craig whitney. why don't you give us the short version of the liberal's case for the second amendment. >> the second amendment does not create, did not create a new gun right to have and don't and use guns. it recognized one that existed already. it had existed since jamestown. it is a right in common law. the colonists needed guns to hunt and defend themselves against attack and the purpose of the second amendment was to reassure people after the new constitution was drafted and while it was being considered for ratification by the 15 states it was designed to reassure people that the new federal government created could not be -- if the routes into a tyrannical direction even if it established a standing army because the states would have the right to keep up their militias. how could you have a state militia if you didn't have people you could call on to serve in it who knew how to use guns and had them. it has never been, however, a bar, the second amendment, there is nothing in it that barred s

good afternoon, craig. you know, there are times here in kansas, in wichita, kansas, where we do worry about our safety. my safety, safety of staff, and safety of our physicians. but we work diligently to ensure that everyone remains safe. we work closely with local law enforcement to make sure that no harm comes to anybody else in this area. >> how have things changed in that community? how have things changed in this country, do you think, when it comes to abortion rights in the five years since dr. tiller's murder? >> well, fortunately, we have not seen anyone else in the abortion care field murdered or harmed in such a way. there continues to be violence in terms of vandalism. there's stalking, intimidation, harassment. we have also continued to see a slew of legislation proposed at the state level to frankly outlaw abortion care. >> let's talk about some of these regulations you mentioned at the state level. there's one in oklahoma, one in missouri. abortion clinics in many states are being hit with ta

i would agree with craig's point. there are at least two studies now showing that stand your ground laws have led to increased rates in homicide in the study that i mentioned before in missouri's law. we did examine stand your ground. we showed increases associated with the laws but not statistically significant. but generally, it doesn't seem to me to be wise public policy. >> i should have -- before i get to emily, i probably should have described exactly what stand your ground laws are. they're a variation on, you know, the traditional notion that one is allowed to defend one's self and traditionally there's also a concept in the law that if you're in your own home, you can use deadly force to defend yourself in the face of a threat of deadly force. and the stand your ground laws expand on that concept and say that if you reasonably perceive a deadly threat anywhere outside your home, you are within your rights to use deadly force in response to that. these laws have been passed in a number of states and have led i

craig, there is some optimism. again it mixed with anxiety. where do you see the mixture landing? cuts recipe taste good once it comes out of the oven? >> anytime you see the type of move we saw last year, 30% plus in the markets you expect some giveback. it has been impressive to me to see the market go sideways. the market is still very underowned by individual investors, lowest on record. so that creates opportunities. this is the most unusual market i have ever seen in my 30 years in that it is correcting the excesses without affecting the market as a whole. i think that is very healthy. and here at the hodges fund as a stock-picker you know i think we're setting up a nice base for the next leg. whether that is six months or a year i'm not sure. i like action. >> craig hasn't seen anything in 30 years like this but you go back and you have seen certain cycles repeat themselves. the late sir john templeton, bull markets are born on pessimism. grow on skepticism, mature on optimism and die on euphoria. are we near anywhere of those points. >> yeah. i don't think so and i think i
