ntsb investigators will be on the tarmac here at travis today. they will be examining that crash site and the runway where yesterday's accident took place. they will also begin the process of examening the wreckage of the plane. the ntsb said today they will be examining a variety of factors as they try to figure out what happened yesterday. they will be looking at both the pilot, the mechanics of the plane and the conditions at the time it went down. this crash happened during the thund over solano airshow and left the pilot -- thunder over solano airshow and left the pilot dead and stunned spectators. the ntsb said witnesses have turned over more than 100 videos of yesterday's accident and those will play a key role in figuring out what went wrong. >> that's always helpful because you have different angles and viewpoints. we have quite a few. i believe we have the accident sequence. i don't believe we're requesting any more at this time. but that's always very helpful. >> reporter: the pilot from yesterday's crash was 77-year- old eddie andrein

noting that the federal rulemaking process often takes many years to complete the outgoing ntsb chair said that it is not acceptable -- that that wait is not acceptable for this risk. she said, quote the rules aren't moving fast enough. we don't need a higher body count before they move forward. she said that last wednesday. and then this wednesday, one week later to the day, this is what happened. in lynchburg, virginia, with exactly the kind of rail cars she was saying are not safe to transport that kind of oil. and then hours after, literally hours after that explosion in lynchburg, virginia, while lynchburg was still burning, the transportation department delivered its proposed new rules about this stuff to the white house. the new rules for transporting oil by rail. the ntsb, meanwhile, wants the obama administration to act on an emergency basis to impose new safeguards through the powers of the presidency, rather than putting them through the normal rulemaking process. the hazardous materials committee for the international association of fire chiefs says that normal fire depart

this morning ntsb officials will be at travis air force base. that's where we find christie smith with the latest on this investigation. good morning, christie. >> ntsb investigators are expected to be out here today was it mechanical failure or something else? the winds were about 15 to 20 miles an hour and it does get fairly windy here in the afternoon and just so happens that this air show and plane crash happened about 2:00 p.m. we do have some youtube video of that same airplane doing a maneuver called cutting the ribbon. sort of a loop where the plane goes way down and in this case, it ended up landing, it looked like or crashing but upside down on its roof. but amateur video captures also the smoky images of that fatal plane crash. this was an old plane, a horrible, horrible end to the travis air force base. and the pilot was in the middle of that maneuver, something he had done many times before when something went wrong. the pilot was 77-year-old eddy andrieini and he has been a stunt pilot for 25 years and been flying since he was 16 y
