we have some video coming out of southern california. here it is. you can see the dramatic pictures coming out of san marcos, california, where thousands of people have been forced to evacuate across southern california as several wildfires continue to burn out of control thursday. now, san marcos, that's located in san diego county, hit hard by the fires as high winds fueled flames, pushing them over hills and near homes in the town. now, most schools were closed in the area and cal state san marcos was forced to evacuate wednesday. the governor of california has declared a state of emergency in response to the fires. now, back here on the map, i want to tell you how windy the situation is. 140 kilometer per hour gusts reported in southern california. that's very dramatic. very dry weather, very warm weather. so the combination is creating that very dangerous fire weather situation. on the flip side, we have the opposite situation, very wet conditions as this trough slowly makes its way eastward and that's creating the possibility of some severe we

take you out to southern california and show you the aerials in the region. you see the dark smoke and light smoke. dark smoke telling us we have very dry underbrush, very dry foliage and the fire itself has not reached its peak maturity. the white smoke you're seeing meaning the fire has reached the peak maturity. the underbrush typically going to be grassy in nature and having more moisture associated with it. the setup does not look good. surrounding some of the areas. this is the point where one of the fires began and you see multiple fires moving off and downstream. guys seem to report that a semitruck in an accident across southern california on i-5 in the last few hours. flames jumped up to the brush next to where the accident was and sparked another fire in itself. that kind of shows you how volling la tile this area is. >> unbelievable. thanks, pedram. thanks for watching "cnn newsroom." i'm rosemary church. >> i'm john vause.
