hp is a leader in that business and benefiting from that. we think the consumer segment from the pc business should continue if you look at, it's from other participants in the supply chain. now, x the pc business, hp still has difficulties, to put it mildly. the enterprise business on the hardware side, the only up to was industry-standard servers, 9%. there is competition in that space. enterprise services, not so hot. software, not so hot. it is not big enough for them to matter. i agree with all parts of what has been set, which is that, yes, pc possibly doing ok and epcbenefited from it, but hp still has work to do. notou talked about software being good. she said it is about to get worse. there was a quote that jumped out at me when i was ready the transcript. she said no where shifting more of our focus to subscription-based offices which may create their term revenue headwinds. that is a flat-out warning that things are going to get worse and software. >> we're seeing this occur. every time a company goes from licensed software model

the hp and autonomy case. it will have an important moment in the courts. i want to turn now to venture capital investing in europe. interesting things going on and a different approach about things being taken on. a lot has been involved in the adls -- big deals. right now. joins me good to see you. i have not seen you in quite a while. let's talk about what is going on with earlybird venture capital, what you guys are doing, and where your focus is in europe. investments are available to you in europe? in continentaled europe. there are a number of vc's -- there is a very healthy that have received funding. it is a good spot to be in. >> this is what people say about silicon valley -- there might be silicon valley-- of phoenix or detroit. but there is this confluence of bankers that can get a company ready to do an ipo and help them do an ipo. does that exist in europe? >> the lawyers and the d a lot of the companies that will make an impact will probably end up being like be israeli company that will have people over here and the ip may be here rather th

let's bring in senior analyst, he has a $40 price target on hp. brian, it's great to have you with us. it looks like the revenue is the surprise of the upside here. what did you make of the quarter? >> obviously, it's philanthropic growth. most of the upside is earned by the pc business. notebooks were up 17% year over year this is the enterprise side of the business. it reversed and grew 2% year over year. we saw enterprise group as well. >> where are we? i hate to use the baseball analogy, use whatever analogy you choose, how far along are we? >> we're still early. i think we're in the 3rd or 4th inning. if you think about it, they are offering 8.5%. the peek margins are north of 11%. so we think there is a lot of profit growth and upside in the business again, they're facing challenges across their portfolio. again, here is a company few expected to grow and they did here this quarter. >> is it enough, though, to have those personal computers. i hear you on the server side. how much was it benefiting from going back in that shift, going back in

hp will probably do an acquisition but the other thing that meg has to do, she has to prove that hp can actually make a responsible acquisition. over pay our economy by $11 billion. >> proctor and gabl bl is about to dump a bunch of brands. you've got to get smaller before you get bigger. >> interesting point. there was this attempt to spin off the pc business a couple years ago by meg whitman's predecessor and that -- there was a big push back against that approximately meg didn't want to do it. i think there's a possibility -- there's a consistent push to tried and consider divesting. one possible place to look is printing. that's not growing much. there's still some cash management and still some return on equity that you could manage there. might be a decent private equity plat. >> cloud and data center. areas are growing in the big companieses and they are really not a presence at this point. >> who would buy the printing business and at what proint price? >> if they were the printing business is is is very profitable. the prining business is a great business to be in. and it has t
