i don't know -- i can't say whether bill cosby is guilty or innocent. not just because of his public relations concerns but it's the right thing to do. >> brian, to you first, the same question to you. if you're someone close to bill cosby now, either a family or professionally, what do you say to him? >> i get he's getting this kind of advice where people are saying you've ignored this stuff and haven't had to respond for years. not much has changed now. i would argue a the lot has changed now. cnn and others are covering this vigorously with saturation coverage in some cases. he's not the only one commenting. nbc is not commenting either. he is developing something with nbc. they've been working on it. >> when i interviewed one of his accusers, she brought up nbc and called them irresponsible. before i could even ask a question -- >> should they comment? >> clearly she is making that a story, and i think nbc will have to stop saying no comment. >> i saw that and you were asking her about the media's coverage and whether you felt it was responsible, et

bill cosby has been in american living rooms for decades. he's known for clean comedy and this is a man -- called him out on some of their actions and that's what's so shocking about all of this, what is your reaction to this tonight and how does bill cosby recover from this, as you see it? >> well, ed, i'm not sure if there's a recovery from these allegations and accusations and the firestorm around them. i think, i've talked a lot in the past publicly about my thoughts about mr. cosby's critique of young black folks and him sort of targeting the pathology without being informed of the conditions in which black folk live. when it comes to this situation there are some important takeaways. number one, don't think that you know what the face is of sexual assault and sexual sort of predatory nature because we want to say that we know what the person looks like. we know what the stereotype or prototype looks like and that simply is not the case and number two, we are very, very good, you know, at engaging in the sort of celebrity culture snafu.

from immigration to the accusations against bill cosby. more than a dozen women have accused comedian and actor bill cosby of sexual assault and rape most of them including the claim he drugged them before the assaults. most of the stories are decades old. one going back to 1969 and cannot be prosecuted because there's statutes of limitations on sexual assault cases. they vary from state to state. california statute is 10 years in most cases, pennsylvania 12, and texas has a five-year statute of limitations. but there's an exception if dna evidence taken around the time of the alleged assault exists. then there's no such time limit. the cosby case raises many questions but chief may be should states abolish statutes of limitations on the crime of rape when there are none for murder? so we want to look at the public policy implications of this case not the details of who did what to whom. if we are jumping to conclusions that he is guilty as charged, and you say that you don't believe he is. >> well, i don't know. i wasn't in the scenarios
