ray rice, ray rice suspended nfl player seen punching his fiancee inside an elevator has won his appeal to be reinstated. rachel nichols joins me with the news after this quick break. >>> got some breaking news. as it pertains to ray rice. remember this story. it all stwortd this video suspended running back ray rice seen hitting and then dragging his then fiancee in that elevator in atlantic city on his case put the spotlight on nfl's domestic violence policies which led to sweeping changes to have a policy. the news here today he won his appeal and is now eligible to play immediately. cnn rachel nichols joins me now. rachel, put this in more context for everyone and what more are you hearing as far as this is concerning? >> reporter: the big headline is that ray rice is now eligible to play with any nfl team that signs him. if a team wanted to sign him and put him on the field that could happen but we're not expecting that to happen any time soon. keep in mind this appeals process wasn't a referendum on the swert of ray rice's actions. it was a referendum in the way nfl handled this c

ray rice's suspension has been lifted. he won his appeal. he is a free agent, he can sign with any team, if a team is interested, the nfl says they accept this ruling. ray rice was originally suspended by roger goodle for two games, when the video was released, in the elevation of himit hadding his then fiancee. and he was released. ray's appeal was based, that they believed ray told roger goodle what happened in the elevator and should not about been punished twice. he thanked several people, including his wife. he said, i made an inexcusable mistake, i accept full responsibility for my actions, i thankful there was an appeals policy to address this issue. i will work hard to be the best husband, father and friend. she believes her husband deserves a second chance. >> john, here is a timeline, february 15th, with the attack inside the elevator, in atlantic city. on february 19th, t.m.z. posted video of rice

a number of teams could use ray rice. the question is, are any of them willing to take on the baggage? a guy bywill remember the name of michael vick and his baggage in 2007 when he was indicted for sponsoring a dogfighting operation. two years later he signed a two-year deal with the eagles. he is pulling for the jets right now. as for ray rice, plenty of teams could use a running back. perhaps the ravens will re-sign him, perhaps the lions, perhaps the cardinals. then you look at teams like the raiders and the jaguars, who need help everywhere. here is the situation -- do you want to take him and have people picketing outside of the stadium? a lot of things going into the situation. the ravens did the whole jersey switch out. exactly, so do you care about business or winning, that is the question. >> thanks so much. we received more than 125 comments on the wjla facebook page, pretty evenly split. bee said ray rice should held accountable, but he has the right to earn a living. others called the move unbelievable. this

ray rice has not played a town this season, but he can claim a big win over the nfl and commissioner roger goodell. today, an arbitrator overturned rice's indefinite suspension for knocking out his then-fiance, calling the nfl's actions arbitrary. rice is now cleared to play if he can find a team willing to sign him. bob orr is following the story. >> what are you going to tell them? >> reporter: ray rice was suspended by the nfl and cut by the baltimore ravens for an incident that happened in an atlantic city hotel in february. this surveillance tape surfaced showing rice dragging his then-fiance janay palmer unconscious from an elevator. in a hearing, rice admitted to nfl commissioner roger goodell he had hit palmer during an argument. goodell suspended rice for two games and fined him more than $500,000. but in september, a second, more-graphic videotape emerged. this videoed in the elevator clearly showed rice hitting palmer, sending her to the floor. commissioner goodell, who claimed not to have seen that tape before, then upped rice's punishment to an indefinite suspension. the

the judge sided with ray rice and jenae rice in the situation, how damning a statement is this? >> pretty damning michael. we know all along ray rice has contended that he was completely honest, completely transparent in his meetings with roger goodell and the nfl about what happened that night. all along people believed that goodell was responding to public pressure that when he gave rice the permanent suspension he had all the facts. i don't think people believed roger goodell was working without sufficient information. but the video was so disturbing, pushed goodell to do something and it was the indefinite suspension that was overturned by this judge. >> there was one other statement from the judge barbara jones, it was about domestic violence. let me read this passage from her. it said the league did not realize the severity of the conduct without a visual record, also speaks to their admitted failure in the past to sanction this type of conduct severely. areva, let me ask correctly, she called out the league for sanction being domestic violence. >> pushing it under the rug
