hi, jeff. >> hey alison. one of the biggest issues we're hearing from people, they don't want more traffic. if you spend time on columbia pike, you know how congested it can be. it causes so much construction we're seeing. it's like this, upscale residential and retail construction happening all over the place and the folks here on the corner of lincoln and columbia pike at the arlington presbyterian church, they were looking for a little bit of balance in that regard. so they're going to be turning the church into affordable housing. the church has stood here on the corner of columbia pike and lincoln for 100 years. the church leaders came to the conclusion the building itself has become less useful and harder and more costly to maintain. at the same time the leaders have looked at the columbia pike development and had serious concerns that people like schoolteachers firefighters, hotel employees simply cannot afford to live in this area. after five years of deliberation and planning the sale of the building

i'm alison stewart in for hari sreenivasan. there's a sign of progress in talks to rebuild the failing peace plan between russia and ukraine. leaders of germany and france are now planning what they call intensive talks in minsk on wednesday. they hope to create a new package of measures to stem fighting in eastern ukraine. the previous peace deal fell apart in september. before the minsk meeting, german chancellor angela merkel will sit down with president obama tomorrow. while there have been reports of a rift between the u.s. and its european allies over whether to arm ukrainian fighters. this morning, secretary of state john kerry said leaders are united in finding a diplomatic solution. >> president putin's got to make the decision to take an off ramp and we have to make it clear to him that we are absolutely committed to the sovereignty and integrity of ukraine no matter what. both european and ukrainian leaders are pushing for greater autonomy in eastern ukraine. but russian president vladimir putin wants kiev to cede br

>> that's right, alison. we're told that the victim was actually trying to help someone else during an attempted robbery when he was stabbed in the hand. this is where it all ended here outside of the federal center metro stop. and i want to show you what's going on behind me. you can still see there are several officers remaining here on the scene. but everything else has pretty much resumed back to normal. we have video of the alleged suspect as he was being taken into custody with blood on his hands here outside of the metro stop. at this point, we have not confirmed whether authorities said that was the suspect involved they were waiting for one of the victims to be returned to the area to make a positive identification on him. metro spokesperson said this happened around 3:30 this afternoon, the suspect got on the train on the l'enfant plaza stop headed to the new carrollton area. at some point, the suspect tried to rob someone on the train. another man tried to intervene to help. the suspect stabbed tha

alison? >> ok scott, thank you very much for that. well basketball analyst greg anthony could have his charges dropped. the former nba star was arrested for soliciting a prostitute in a d.c. hotel last month. john gonzalez reports on the deal that was made in court today and what punishment anthony is facing. >> good afternoon. well earlier today, he walked out the front door here at d.c. superior court and tried to avoid our cameras and jumped into an s.u.v. here on indiana avenue. the well known basketball analyst greg anthony who pleaded not guilty earlier this month to that charge of soliciting a prostitute, today, well he made an agreement to what's called a deferred prosecution agreement. essentially what that means is that the government here in d.c. will agree to drop that charge of solicitation only after anthony completes 32 hours of community service. our cameras were rolling when anthony walked out of the courthouse with his attorneys wearing a gray blazer and jeans. they had no comment. the 47-year-old did issue a stateme

alison? >> leon, the spreading measles outbreak is quickly becoming a political issue that doesn't follow political party lines. the latest figures show more than 100 people have been diagnosed with the disease in 14 states mostly in the western half of the u.s. in santa monica, a 1-year-old has tested positive for measles prompting quarantine for the 14 infants now who attend the same daycare. yesterday, president obama said he supports immunizations for all children while republican senator rand paul say parents should have a choice. and today, house speaker john boehner did not mince words. >> we know that we need another law, but i do believe that all children ought to be vaccinated. >> so that debate over vaccinations is more than just political. it's a conversation that they had on play groups and doctors' offices, at the dinner table. suzanne kennedy tells us how some people are handling what has turned into a controversial decision. >> jenna and her husband had debated whether to immu

hi, bob. >> hi alison. speaking of the third street tunnel, roads are a wreck on the southbound side. there were two there's one left on the right side. and 95 northbound does slow down a bit getting up into howard county as per usual at this hour, not doing too badly on the baltimore-washington parkway. and right now, traffic on 66 remains slow headed west out towards centreville a crash at route 28. that's out of the roadway now and the travel lanes are open. let's take a look at some cameras and traffic is generally doing pretty well on i-95 heading south along dumfries running pretty cleanly. it does slow down headed towards garrisonville. this delay we useed to have in dumfries is gone since the express lanes have moved further south. beltway, montgomery county on the inner loop at connecticut avenue coming across silver spring and into college park and greenbelt, volume delays with the lanes open. i'm bob emler with 103.5 wtop radio. >> thank you so much, we'll see you later. this morning's commute wa

. >> well good afternoon to you, alison. they tell us they'll be keeping a close eye on the tracks like this one here at the grovener metro station. they say the outdoor tracks that are not underground, that's what they'll be watching carefully throughout the night and into the morning. that's because metro officials tell us the magic number they say that magic number is eight. once we start to get eight inches of snow on those tracks that are not underground, that's when they can look to see if they have to make any service adjustments. meanwhile, for riders on metrobus, they tell us that they are going to expect some delays and detours as that winter weather starts to head into our area and accumulate out on the roadways. so metro officials will be keeping a close eye to the sky, the roads and rails throughout the night and into tomorrow ahead of the morning rush. from trains to planes at the airports we are seeing some delays and cancellations for people trying to get out ahead of this winter weather. we talked to one fam
