but to destroy isis the u.s. jordanian, uae, qatar, saudi arabia all those countries you mentioned, to do that you need ground troops. certainly, the iraqi military has proven they are not up to it. kurds, while they are ferocious fighters courageous they need help. the free syrian army that doesn't seem to be going anywhere. is there in the works, senator, a ground invasion if you will being planned right now to go ahead and destroy isis? >> probably planned is too advanced a word. it is certainly being discussed. but as i said most members of congress are reluctant to sign on to a full-scale putting boots on the ground in this fight. having said that the other arab nations are talking much more boldly than they have in the past about actually putting boots on the ground there going along with what you said before. air power is great. air power can do a lot of powerful things. but a lot of times, to get completely cleaned up you will need boots on the ground. >> certainly, when i spoke to jordan's foreign minist

we know that they think isis is full of beans, as they say. >> they think isis is totally lying. we will speak to the chief jordanian government spokesman in amman. we will get the latest on what jordan is up to. as you know they say they are only just beginning their retaliation for what isis did to that jordanian fighter pilot. they are stepping up their air strikes, they are flatly denying the isis claim that kayla mueller, the 26-year-old american humanitarian worker who had been held hostage by isis for so long they deny that their air strikes killed this woman. they say isis is fabricating the whole thing. >> amazing also how many of these westerners that isis has so brutally slaughtered that were there to help the people of the region either aid workers or journalists who were trying to get syrians and iraqis to tell their story. to a person they were amazing people. >> they just wanted to do good. kayla mueller was working with doctors without borders in a hospital trying to help little syrian refugee kids. she had earlier been in africa she had been in israel palestine,

if the jordanians wrap up their military here and go after isis, isn't that what isis wants? >> i think isis was probably trying to probe them and see if they had resolve. isis, in its terror, even though it seems insane to us, that's not always the case. if you look at their march into iraq and the terror tactics they used, it did work in intimidating a lot of sunnis and actually leading to isis successes. however, if the jordanians react, it's important to keep in mind their ability to do so is limited. they have a lot of problems on their hands. they have more than a million refugees already inside their borders from the syrian civil war and they cannot single handedly defeat isis. that requires not only the participation of other arab states but frankly the involvement of the united states beyond what we've seen of what's been a fairly ineffective military operation. >> jordan has problems and divisions within its own country. those support the u.s.-led coalition and those that don't. where do those fault lines lie, i guess, in the country? >> well, with any of these coun

we need to take on isis. so there does appear at least for now to have been a significant change in jordanian public opinion, which is helping the king to feel empowered, if you like to get more involved and to have -- to launch more air strikes and be more a part of this coalition. and you make a very important point that the targets will have been chosen not just by jordan but by the command that sends control and also we're hearing reports that there has been a significant effort to ensure that if a plane should go down if a pilot should go missing again, that that pilot could be rescued to try to prevent any pilot falling into the hands of isis again. so you're right, the jordanians and you could say -- at least for the last few days taking the lead in the air strike. but at the same time it is part of that coalition effort. >> before i let you go we did confirm last night that jordan was investigating whether in fact the pilot had ejected after initially being shot by his wing man. there may have been fr

that isis has made before. let's not forget it was only within the last several weeks, isis wanted to negotiate a prisoner swap for the jordanian pilot that was already killed. they released the video weeks after his death. but they were certainly negotiating to transfer him well after his death. therefore, this could be met with high skepticism, the claim being made by isis militants via twitter today that one of the hostages being held by isis, particularly a female american hostage, has been killed in jordanian air strikes. how they could delineate a jordanian air strike from any other coalition member's also something one would have to question. there is another issue to take into account as well. from reading their press release -- andly call it that as they released on twitter -- there is only one person said to have been killed in this bombing raid on a target in raqqa. i want to bring in our pentagon correspondent, barbara starr. barbara, is the pentagon acknowledging this in any way? certainly i'm gues

it has been put online by a known organization that is linked to isis part of isis. so the assumption is that this is what it purports to be. we're also hearing the head of the jordanian armed forces has told the family of the jordanian pilots that he has been killed. that's being reported by reuters. reuters says a member of the pilot's family has told that organization that so it's absolutely horrifying shocking and a change in the way that isis has executed its hostages up until now, they have been beheaded, on video too. this time this pilot, burned alive, 26 years old. he was flying an f-16 jordanian f-16 and crashed in syria. that was an incredibly difficult place for his plane to go down because it is the center of power for isis in syria. and although he survived that crash, he was taken by isis. as you mentioned, there have been negotiations if you can call them that between the jordanians and isis to try to secure the pilot's release in exchange for that failed suicide bomber, that failed al qaeda suicide bomber. jordan has said it was prepared to release h

we saw an attack a couple days ago by isis fighters on peshmerga lines that killed over 40 isis fighters. isis is very aware that coalition air strikes could take place and airplanes are in the region and they take advantage of the weather. when they can probe these lines. when it is overcast and at night. that is when the massive offense offensive because air strikes could not hit them. they risk bombing them. this is happening as the government is preparing for the fight on mosul. >> every day, seems to bring a new low in terms of isis depravity. now reports this group is trafficking in human body parts? >> reporter: this is being reported by the iraqi government that isis is doing this. they did not offer any evidence to support this claim. we have not seen any other reports that proves this. it would be a very difficult for them to harvest organs. i covered these stories before. they have to harvest the organ hours, right after the death of the person and transport it immediately. it is a lot more difficult to get money this way than let's say arcology selling act facts or oil. we kn

isis members executing other isis members for having differing opinions on things. it's starting to sound like they're having troubles from within and more organization from outside. it feels like things are about to get better. i don't know. >> reporter: well, you're a lot closer to literally and figuratively than i am. i talked to some national security advisers recently. they talk about, well they're able to kill maybe 1,000 isis fighters a month. there are estimates that more than that, 1,55000 2000 foreign mighters fighter from other countries are joining the campaign. as savage as it was, the reason isis put out the 22 minute video, including the burning to death of the jordanian pilot was as a recruiting tool. the jordan king was meeting in washington when they released it. the king of jordan and president of the united states are conferring to deal with us. that empowers isis and the people who think they should support them. >> chris wallace in washington on capitol hill. thanks very much. we'll look for you this weekend. you'll have more on the fight again

isis is a bunch of terrorists. isis must be stopped. but the question is how far does their jordanian military go? how much support will the king get from his people? if the protests today are any indication, at least in the early going he's gotten a lot of support. and we have lots of video in from those protests, which were underway really across the kingdom this morning. we've -- our views and our colleagues have been out speaking to people who live here. is this enough? does this mean it's time to move forward? well, we didn't have a lot of time after arriving at the airport three hours ago. but decided to go to some of the mostly very quiet streets of amman today. so many have taken the day off in mourning in support of the king and the military and especially the family of the martyred jordanian pilot. but some did come to what the locals call one of the best shops around right around circle number two here in amman to talk about what happened. and to think about the future. i spoke with two men i'm going to share with you. one li

and isis as well. it's one of the reasons jordan joined the coalition, to put its government and the king's stamp on the notion of moderate islam. now this puts king abdullah and the jordanian military in a very difficult position. you'll remember that this female prisoner, sajida al rishawi, held convicted of her role in hotel bombings in amman in 2005 on behalf of al qaeda in iraq, again, the precursor to isis, jordan really trying to crack down on all of that. but also very concerned that al qaeda in iraq morphed into isis, that isis would go from syria to iraq to making its move again to jordan. it's one of the reasons jordan is in the coalition. it's one of the reasons that king abdullah and the jordanian military have aligned themselves with the united states. but now many people in jordan questioning whether they want to be part of this coalition, whether this small country and its people, they want to have this human risk that they have now seen here. so i think we're going to see the jordanian

isis out of iraq's second largest city. there may be a recommendation to send ground force into mosul to help in the target there. joining me lieutenant colonel james reece. thanks for joining me. when we talk about isis in iraq it's a bit more of success story for the u.s. and coalition force than isis in syria. what is your assessment whether we need u.s. ground troops not for fighting on the ground but better locating the targets. do we need to see that? >> poppy, you know the attack on to or assault on mosul, when that is planned and will kick off is based on the timeline between iraqis and u.s. advisors that are there. because it is such a difficult fight, mosul being a city the second largest city in iraq it will probably behoove us to put air controllers, some other special forces advisors in there for the iraqi teams to insure we get precision fire and reduce our collateral damage. >> isn't that just boots on the ground? isn't it just semantics to say it's something different? b, frankly after heavy air strikes in k

>> tell us a little bit how organized the isis -- the isis fighters are. you said earlier that they were able to coordinate from multiple angles multiple fronts showing that this is a fighting force with military training. >> absolutely it is. last night's attack on three fronts very complex, coordinated. we know because we've been listening. they have a lot of walkie-talkie and radio communications. the kurds even tell us that some of their radio communications are encrypted. so they can't even listen to them. this is a military organization that is well organized, well supplied. we were over mount sinjar a little while ago, and the main highway to syria was still full of traffic, isis traffic, with tankers, trucks pickup trucks resupplying the front. this is not an organization that is going to be defeated in short order. it's quite resilient. it's on the back foot but it's showing just how disciplined it is. >> the kurds pushing them back on the back foot but indeed a stretched line of defenses. thank you so much for that tim lister great analysis for u
