scott van -- scott broom is live in laurel with what happened. >> i'm at the maryland transportation police headquarters awaiting a briefing. this is no doubt mysterious and also alarming because the source of the gunfire has not been identified. let me take you out on the roadway. maryland 200 just before 3:00 this afternoon a truck being driven by employees of nelson tree experts was driving down the icc when it was hit apparently by two bullets if you can see from the location. there appear to be two bullet holes through the windshield. one of the bullets actually passed through the clothing of one of the occupants of the truck and did not hit him. a second occupant inside the truck was hit by flying glass according to maryland transportation authority police. right now at the scene the truck is still on the side of the roadway. crime scene tape has been put up. maryland transportation authority police are investigating right now to try to figure out the source of the gunfire. the truck drivers according to some of the fellow employees at nelson tree experts who have been in touch

scott broom is in baltimore tonight where friends of the suspect say he was a transvestite struggling with homelessness and reject. >> reporter: that suspect was identified by the fbi as 27- year-old ricky shawatza hall, but he was a transgender person living on the streets in charles village in baltimore as maya and he was living in that abandoned road house right there. ricky shawatza hall age 27 has convictions for robbery, assault and probation violations according to court records. he lived as a woman in this abandoned building and was homeless according to this fellow transwoman who befriended hall and knew him on the street as maya. >> i know she wasn't in the right head space when she was in that car. she doesn't even know how to drive like that. she's not licensed. it's not like she was a pro at driving and could steal cars or that was her m.o. this is out of her characteristics. >> reporter: leonard said she is shocked that it was hall shot to death at the gates of the national security agency yesterday after authorities there say hall and a companion refused to stop after d
