so, this is a family and georgetown. the mom is off to the side and she did not want her kids running around the port, so she went ahead and tied them up. in the winter we would close for four months. it would usually start in early november, we would go ahead and close down and then would not open back up until maybe april is what we would do. when we did close down, that was when we get a lot of the maintenance on the canal back then it had to be kept about the because the draft of the heaviest boat was about four feet. you had to make sure you had enough room between the bottom of your canal and the bottom of your boat. we obviously have little creeks that run into the canal that bring in sediment that cause a sandbar or make it hard for us to maintain. so, when we close down in the winter months we would go ahead and drains certain sections of the canal so that you could use a good old shovel and go ahead and dig out the hurt that was in there so that we could keep it the minimum of six feet deep. once we finally got
