caitlin: scott walker was recently in new hampshire. you have been with him in the state as you have been with other candidates coming through. i'm wondering what you make of the recent change of mind on the issue of providing some kind of have to citizenship or legal status. are you able to clarify what you think you have been aggregating for during history of their? the question for you, and also for jeff, can a candidate get through this primary having support -- or supporting some type of path to citizenship or legal status for those undocumented immigrants? jennifer: sure. let me first say, it was a pleasure to have governor out walker here -- governor walker here. i have only seen him in an event to answer that question, and he said he is advocating for a path to legal says. what i would say about the issue in general is that your is no question that it will be part of the conversation this year. it is one of the many issues that unfortunately this the administration has failed to come to a satisfactory solution on. it is not the

new hampshire is not a great state for the bushes. what jeb bush has to do to overcome the history is to live up to what he set a couple of times about himself -- proved to new hampshire that he is his own man. mark: both president bushes went hard in iowa, and that hurt them in new hampshire. new hampshire voters tend to not just validate what iowa voters to. if you look culturally, you and i disagree about this -- i still think bush can be a strong iowa candidate -- he will be a strong candidate for this state. scott walker is here, doing a public isn't tomorrow. unless chris christie picks up the establishment vote here right now is going to be more towards jeb bush than anyone else. he's got that family history against him, but he's a good fit for this state. voters care about policy, and the guy wows on policy. john: i don't disagree with any of that. again back on our last college poll we did in february, jeb bush was in the lead, and also some very good numbers among republicans. one thing that really is a warning sign -- we as

new hampshire is an election state. iowa is a caucus state. they want to know how to schedule things, they want recommendations on which activists they might go and talk to as being part of their campaign. all of these things are things good friends could convey to each other. i remember way back in the clinton campaign, i got a phone call from democratic governor clinton asking me for the kind of advice when he was running in the primary here. there is a network of political figures who have relationships and they either establish new ones or reestablish old ones. mark: governor, you have a good barometer of the new hampshire electorate. do you think in 2016, what that electorate is looking for from the republican possible candidate? is it different from what republican electorates in the past were looking for in past election cycles? governor sununu: all of this is being driven by the horrible performance of the obama administration. voters' expectations are set by whatever's being perceived in washington. my personal feeling is the country

new hampshire picks presidents. it's important for all of them. >> iowa would point out they've picked the last couple of presidents, though, and new hampshire didn't. >> that's kind of corny. >> in fairness to the hawkeye state. let me ask you about walker though. because if you look at the early polls in new hampshire, all the buzz for jeb bush and he's got the name obviously, but scott walker is right up there with jeb bush in new hampshire. what is scott walker who's not as well known, what is he tapping into in your state? >> i think he's tapping into really the anger that america has with the current administration and looking for somebody that can stand up and show leadership. and i think both jeb and scott and the other republicans that are going to be running up here are going to try and focus on those aspects within their resume that reflect support for that kind of a feeling that the public has. look each candidate has a different mix of pluses and minuses. and the smart candidate does a good job of empha

in new hampshire we have 18,000 children on social security. it is financially challenged, we all agree to that. we would like to know what would be on the table for consideration in strengthening social security today. senator graham: what would be on the table is making it solvent for 75 years. so, the people coming after us would have it. how many of you have a 401(k) plan? how many of you worry about outliving your 401(k) plan? social security in the future will be as important to the american worker as it was in 1945. you could outlive your 401(k) plan and it is the only plan in america unless you work for the government. 50% of today's seniors would be in poverty without a social security check. but would i do to save it? i would give up some of my future benefits as a means test to make sure it was there for people, like my family, in the future. i can give up some. i am in a good spot and would do it in a new york minute. i would take less of an increase because i can afford to do that and save money for those who cannot afford to give

hampshire. >> concord, new hampshire. we're in the little-known snow shoe club which has entertaining some political candidates here in new hampshire. outside of concord. earlier tonight, john kasich, the governor of ohio had an event with a number of republicans. he's making his first trip to new hampshire as a potential 2016 presidential candidate. it comes here we are in the north woods of new hampshire, outside of concord, and yesterday was virginia where ted cruz was entering the race officially. at lynchburg, a very big move, a billion dollars move for him. it really has begun to define the parameters of the republican debate. ted cruz wants to set himself up as the sort of arbiter of what the true conservative principles are. he talked about squishy and mushy republicans. and what many believe to be the followers of jeb bush. here in new hampshire, the bush name is not a big help. ted cruz of texas texans haven't particularly fared well in the granite state. ted cruz has a lot of problems with the social conservati

but he went to new hampshire and said i'm going new hampshire the new hampshire way. >> ifill: how about scott walker? >> scott walker has a challenge because he's doing well in iowa because the electorate in iowa is the kind scott walker would do well with -- more conservative, midwestern state he's from wisconsin. the question is can he do something after iowa and we know new hampshire is the next state. more moderate, independents are there, play a big role in the primary process. ifs will a place to stop jeb bush, it would be in new hampshire. if he can win iowa and new hampshire, that would be a big blow to the bush campaign. >> ifill: to the democratic side of the ledger and hillary clinton e-mails which we've now seen. grain of salt, but we've seen a poll this afternoon from cnn that shows she's taking something of a hit. i don't know if it's about the email or just the general idea of transparency. how do you read this? >> i read this is this is a problem about being democratic nominee for president when you're not the democratic nominee for president. she is a candidate for the

every week politico's james talks to these insiders in iowa new hampshire, about 150, about we found that 40% of the democrats say that this story really matters. so on camera it's about 0% of democrats will admit that it hurts. but in the survey a big number did. of course republicans very excited about it. 85% of them say it's breaking

christie sent his own guy to new hampshire to become the executive director of the new hampshire republican party. just in time to start wiring the state for chris christie for 2016. and chris christie needs new hampshire. if he is going to make a run. otherwise, he's going to get clobbered. a genius move, right? until the bridge thing screwed it up. it turns out the boy genius that chris christie dispatched is also the genius he sent to ft. lee, new jersey. the town that was gridlocked on purpose for nearly a week. as some sort of political retaliation orchestrated by at least one of his top aides. all right, remember time for some traffic problems in ft. lee and they shut down lanes of traffic on the george washington bridge. that matter of course is still the subject of a pending from investigation by the federal prosecutor in new jersey. that scandal is still looming. exactly what happened in that scandal, why it is still mostly unexplained -- the only working political theory for why they might have purposely shut down those bridge lanes is fear of retaliation for ft. lee's mayor. ft.

i am from new hampshire. i teach at a community college here. what will you do to change how campaigns are financed, and please address how money corrupts and controls our political system, what you can do to change that. governor perry: i come from a state that has no limits on campaign contributions, and we are all about disclosure. i am a big fan of disclosure. i happen to think that you disclose where you get the dollars, you do it almost immediately, and in the world we live in today with technology available, you can require that where those dollars come from, who those individuals are, and i think the american people are smart enough to know whether or not they think that is too much or whether that would corrupt the process. i happen to think the limiting of dollars is not the issue, i think the transparency of the where the dollars come from is the real issue. we need to be substantially involved with making it the a be a more transparent process. >> thank you so much for being with us, governor. appreciate it. great presentation. i tha

he's trailing jeb bush scott walker rand paul in new hampshire. and he's in south carolina with just 6%. we're expecting the bridgegate indictments any day now. we'll start with steve because you are my lead guy on this so you're the top reporter i can think of. what's it look like for him? and if there are indictments and they do come how close do they bite to him? >> that's the question we've been talking about for a long time now. seems to be a holding pattern. i don't want to oversell my sources on this but the thing you keep hearing is basically a question of why hasn't it happened right now. the expectation of people close to this any day now and probably these indictments should have come a month ago, maybe two months ago. a lot of talk chatter about what the delay is that one particular player here david sampson, christie's close confident and friend that there's a lot of extra stuff that's come up in the investigation about him that seems to be prolonging this. but when you talk about all the other principal players, there's reason to sus

now, new hampshire will play a critical role in the 2016 election. and one thing i would encourage each of you to ask, any candidate that shows up in front of you either republican or democrat, one simple question if president obama negotiates a bad deal with iran that undermines our national security that makes it more likely that iran secures nuclear weapons and if he doesn't submit it to congress will you repudiate that agreement in january of 2017? and any candidate who is not willing to say yes who is not willing to put the vital national security of this country above partisan interests is not fit to be the commander in chief of this country. i want to close with two points. number one, i told you that i'm very optimistic. scripture tells us there's nothing new under the sun. i think where we are today is very, very much like the late 1970s. i think the similarities between barack obama and jimmy carter are uncanny. same disastrous economic policy. same misery, stagnation, malaise. same feckless and arrogant and naive foreign policy. in fact, t

you and i were struck by those focus groups in new hampshire. they are unscientific. a dozen republicans in the room, none of them want him as a nominee. you hear from his rivals, the establishment like walker and rubio, they go around the country for a different guy, they find the same thing. beyond the donor class, there is not a big constituency out there that loves jeb bush. mark: that having been said, we have seen this movie before. the best efforts of social conservatives to coal is around one candidate, it is not going to happen. john: he's got a worst enemy out there that is not himself, candidates are their own worst enemy, it is going to be someone else in the establishment bracket. someone younger who can claim the generational mantle. appeal to enough people on the right, but have a lot of establishment support. bush will have a lot. there is a lot around. mark: i believe unless voters are opposed him knowing can take it away from him. he's going to perform poorly. john: voters may or may not be opposed to him but they may be suffering bush fatigue and th
