they want everyone to go to facebook and stay on facebook and do everything they can on facebook. if that is not going to happen they want everyone to go to a facebook app, whether it's messenger or instagram or whatsapp. they want to make sure wherever you are come you were on a facebook property. one of the things to listen for today will be development around those apps. are they going to allow developers to write for those platforms? allowing payments between users of facebook messenger. is that the kind of thing that will open up to other developers to offer other services? looking at this other platforms. matt: it's exciting to hear from his perspective that the new york times, national geographic, buzz feed may operate within the bounds of facebook. what other things do you think you would like to see inside facebook? cory: it's interesting the way he seems to think of his company as a media copy. people consume information. -- as a media company. thinking about something, calling it the new speed. -- news feed. i think that's an important developed for the company because

on the video side, -- cory: what makes facebook unique? >> they've worked with data logic which powers a royalty backend with grocery stores so they can tie behaviors back to your ad at the personal level. that has been a really powerful tool for them. cory: they will be able to see i saw a heinz ketchup ad and then went and brought it -- went and bought it? >> we have been experimenting with that as an agency, talking to facebook dance. >> i think that is true. going back to my point about wanting to know whether the advertising is effect of, by being able to target people precisely with advertising and letting the advertiser know whether someone actually viewed the added is pretty revolutionary. not just video advertising, but advertising in general. that is exciting. >> there are e-commerce plays and you can track this through a digital connection. now as we have these tools were we have walmart and amazon, we are seeing what we used to call brand advertising tied to a revenue event with much more fidelity. >> we saw this news yesterday

the context on facebook without.ing to lease the net work in exchange for share of advertising revenue. sarah lacy facebook is talking to the "new york times" on the verge of giving zuckerberg a fat bit of content to keep people on facebook. >> it is fascinating and it is the combination of "new york times" and buzz feed together such a p.r. master stroke of face book, two big media giants on polar opposites of the scale buzz need is very modern very new media, highly valued going after shares and distribution and all about distribution, and "new york times" all about brand, one of the only publications where subscriptions seem to kind of be working. leveraging off the 150 year plus reputation and frankly beg of the publications want a limit bit of what the other has.

no doubt pricing is going up on facebook. it will hit a ceiling, hasn't yet but will at some point. >> sounds like the enthusiasm for twitter is tempered. what's going on there? >> i think that's right. this is the first time we've seen a decline kind of a cresting in advertiser interest in twitter. it's still positive, we still see more advertisers wanting to spend more with twitter than less, but the rate at which they want to spend more is declining. that may sound nuanced to you but that's what we're looking for. the big challenge for twitter they can fix this problem, but is that unlike google they don't have real-time commercial intent and unlike facebook they don't have a billion, you know, real-time authenticated user profiles advertisers can use for targeting. they're stuck in the middle, have to prove themselves to advertisers. that's one of the biggest reasons we have a hold on the stock. >> you say they can fix that. how? >> well -- >> users -- >> that's -- they don't necessarily need to get a billion users and do

-- i made up that verb -- on facebook. facebook wanted to take more control of what happens when they are done with facebook. >> absolutely. facebook has an obvious interest in getting you to come back and not getting you to leave. that news -- that was told around linking. they say websites of the publishers are sub par and their mobile experience moves too slowly and bringing that content into facebook can give a better experience for users and make facebook more money along the way. cory: i have heard mark zuckerberg talk about this notion as facebook as a newspaper, where facebook is the place you can get all the information relevant to you and will guide you to the things that matter to you. is that the goal here or do they just want the ad dollars, the few ad dollars journalism is providing right now? >> i think they think that news is key to making facebook a more than a daily habit. beyond that, facebook has two huge edges over publishers. one is scale, which is so enormous. they also have the best set of user data
