kristy is at treasure island as you know it's been a long list of problems. >> reporter: we spoke to the bridge salesperson who said they have to adjust the bridge because of the e the zion of the bridge. one span of the bridge is longer and now there are questions on whether that may have been a factor in putting some rods at risk. in 2011 high-tension cables helped adjust the top of the bay bridge eastern span's tower. a bridge spokesperson says the adjustment was expected but they are trying to determine now whether that shift may have impacted critical bridge rods. >> so this was known far in advance in design space. >> reporter: caltrans said earlier that the inspection found standing water and substandard grout and microscopic cracks in one rod. >> we needed a microscope. a high-powered microscope to see the cracking. so it is not a safety issue, but we do need to understand what in fact may have been the cause. >> reporter: caltrans insists the bridge is safe. lisa fullson is not convinced. she's a material scientist. >> more concerns. more alarms. because any additional damag
