the city of berkeley got started tonight. cheryl hurd is in berkeley with the detail and what is the plan here, and what's the response? >> well, the response came from berkeley first tonight. the berkeley city council members said that, yes, on vaccinations, and no on personal exemptions, and now they will send a letter to sacramento tomorrow telling them how they feel, but tonight, the debate was heated. >> we ask you that you oppose sb 277, because there is no need for personal exemptions. >> reporter: they came tonight to speak, and it is evidence how they felt about senate bill 277. >> this bill wreaks of the very worst knee-jerk politicsmongering since 9/1 1 111. >> reporter: it would repeal the personal exemption, and only children be immunized for the measles, and whooping cough be admitted to a school in california. so tonight, city councilors took time to listen. >> the issue is the vaccine schedule right now, but it does not address all of the vaccines that could enter from now until the end of time. >> reporter: p

burton hosted the after hours program at kpfa in berkeley. he spent decades working in radio. he also worked at the youth radio training program which is where i met him back in the '90s. the crash that took his life sol suddenly happened around 2:20 in the morning. there was a speeding dodge charger that slammed into burton's car leaving him dead at the scene. the driver got out of the car and ran off before officers got here. this weekend burton's colleagues did a tribute show for him and there was a poem that was read. here is part of it. >> god, please get that snake. punish those that can't help themselves and forage them not when they hit and run in >> reporter: there has been a go fund me account that has been set up for burton to help his wife and children with expenses. right now people have donated more than $13,000 for the family. it's unclear if oakland police have been able to identify the driver of that dodge vehicle. but we will be checking in with authorities. of course later on this morning. for >> we'll check in with you in a little bit. >>> the high school s

. >>> we will go back to that developing news out of berkeley where two people are hurt after an early morning shooting. tara moriarty is joining us live from the intersection officiate tick and ashby. what are we learning about the shooting? >> reporter: police have sealed off all streets. if you take a look behind me. there are a ton of markers. and those we are told some of them are bullet casings. >>> at least two people in a dark colored car caught under a hail of bullets. luckily no one was struck there. according to community reporter, one man had a bullet land on his bed. a car across the street from the chevron was also hit. the clerk's window at gas station took gunfire. apparently it shattered. and now crime scene investigators have arrived. bullet casings again in the streets. there are surveillance cameras at the gas station, the enterprise car rental and deli nearby. police are hoping to get all of that footage from the owners. a lot of them are not down here yet because it is so early in the morning. once they come down they will get that footage and look it over. live f
