let's turn now to our meteorologist, derek van dam. i know you have been tracking these avalanches and aftershocks. this aftershock was a big one. >> in particular, a 6.7. i'm concerned about the proximity to mt. everest, which is roughly 100 kilometers away from the latest aftershock. just keeping this in mind and the perspective of the original earthquake, which was a 7.8 magnitude. that was actually well west of kathmandu. significantly further away from what this latest aftershock has been. i am concerned this recent aftershock taking place within the last hour is and has occurred or created more avalanches. we have reports of that from sherpas who have been trekking the long trek up to base camp to help with the search and rescue operations. i want to talk about why this area is particularly vulnerable

let's get over to meteorologist derek van dam in the weather center. derr deric, there are a lot of people there. >> yes, they need to stay out of the rub. and there are reports of eight aftershocks. since this took place just before noon local time on saturday, that is significant because we already have weakened infrastructure across that region because of this extremely large and extensive earthquake that took place earlier today. that depth of around 15 kilometers also very disconcerting as well. just because it's such a shallow earthquake, it leads to the possibility of extensive damage spreading out in all directions from the particular epicenter. if it was deeper there would be more krounts, the epicenter of this of, the 7.9 that i'm discussing. the original earthquake took place about 81 kilometers northwest of katmandu, this is obviously the capital of nepal. so let's try and put this in perspective for you at home so you can understand just how significant this is. we use different classes of magnitude to discuss the type of damage that one w

. >> i'm derek mcginty. 1 week after prosecutors charged one young woman in david messerschmitt's murder, they filed charges against 19- year-old domonique johnson accused of conspiracy to commit robbery. our mola lenghi is at the donovan hotel where it all went down. you talked to some folks who know these two young women. >> reporter: we spoke with a neighbor who is as surprised these two young ladies could be mixed up in it as he is with the entire mystery. two young women, 21-year-old jamyra gallmon and 19-year-old domonique johnson are in jail in connection with the murder of david messerschmitt. the two women lived together in this south east d.c. apartment building. do you know what the relationship was? >> they had an ongoing relationship with one another. >> reporter: police say the two plotted to rob messerschmitt. february 9th gallmon responded to a craigslist ad posted by the attorney. after several e-mails he gave gallmon his room number at the hotel where she planned to rob him but stabbed him to death when he grabbed and fought with her not letting her leave the room. poli

i'm derek mcginty. >> i'm jan jeffcoat. the severe weather might be over, but first alert chief meteorologist topper shutt is tracking lingering showers and even some thunderstorms on live doppler 9000. >> nothing severe, but these are stubborn. we have showers in green which is generally light, but heavier activity up 270 toward frederick, the red and yellow, heavy rain on the east side of 270 headed off to the north and east up toward thurmont. we had a lot of reports of hail across the metro area and reports of wind damage south of annapolis and actually reports of a funnel cloud in parts of southern maryland. this is the hail around rockville. about 8:15 hail about the size of a quarter. we do have a tornado watch that now includes eastern sections of maryland and parts of the delmarva points north, chester town and dover up into portion -- chestertown and dover up into portions of new jersey. we just got this minutes ago coming to us from huntington not far from plum island where they actually saw a waterspout. this is
