joining us now, joy reed richard world, howard dean and david frum. howard dean is the president right, is this the most progressive framework for trade we've ever had? >> that's actually the problem. we don't know. i think we're going to need to see a lot more before we can possibly say that. the two things that worry me the most in this trade deal are what are the rights of corporations to override sovereignty decisions by states for example, in environmental protection? we've seen that abused in the past. the other is that it reduces, to my understanding, it reduces intellectual property protection for certain industries. below what it is in the united states. and i think that's the problem. so the solution to this is transparency. and if there's transparency in what is being negotiated then we can make those judgments for ourselves. right now, everybody has to go on what they think is in there and what wikileaks puts in the paper and that's a tough way to do business. >> jerry reed there's hillary clinton saying in the softest terms, pretty neutra

howard dean, if you look at the polls, the latest washington post poll, there's jeb bush in the lead. and then rand paul is down there with mike huckabee and ben carson kind of clustered. when i look at that group, what i wonder about, accuming they drop out, rick perry drops out, chris christie drops out at some point ben carson drops out, do they go to rand paul -- who, when they drop out of that field, whose supporters go to rand paul? >> that's a very big problem. i think rand paul is unique in a certain way. he takes positions that some liberals would like. what he said about incarceration, the disproportionately affecting people of color, i thought that was impressive. the trouble is, there's no constituency for that in the republican party whatsoever. so we had last week -- ted cruz or two weeks ago, now rand paul. i don't think either of these candidates is going to last very much past south carolina. >> brian, can't rand paul stay financed for a pretty long run like his father used to? >> yeah, if he doesn't alienate his dad's constituency. they're great small givers. what he

i never thought i would live long enough to hear myself say this john kerry listened to howard dean. when howard dean says it's time to walk away, it's time to walk away. >> it seems to me one of the most important questions i have is that as these negotiations go beyond the deadline that you know it's always good to have the other side talking at the table talking. but what i want to know is whether or not while these negotiations are going on, are the iranians enriching any uranium? because i heard some things about the breakout period being two or three months. do we know for certain there is no enrichment happening right now while we're at the table? >> there is definitely enrichment going on. part of the hangup is that iran yaps want to research and development component to nuclear program with advanced centrifuges that could turn material into weapons grade material when a matter of months. you are talking about 60 plus centrifuges. iranians a capacity to go nuclear in terms of a bomb within a matter of months not a year the whole goal of negotiations a year and a half ago was

after bush's narrow victory in 2004 there were a number of non-evangelical leaders like howard dean and nancy pelosi who reached out to progressives and moderates and in some ways they echo the moves that bill clinton had made a decade earlier. combined with bushes growing unpopularity gave progressive evangelicals leverage. in many ways obama had anticipated the democratic party's new strategy. obama entered the national stage of the memorable keynote address at the daschle -- democratic national convention. obama said that we worship an awesome god. he was trying to blur the colors of the culture wars but many americans certainly recognize that raise awesome god as an allusion to the swaying chorus line of the popular worship song. one of the few political advantages that obama's unorthodox background provided him was the chance to fashion his own story. obama was not the typical democrat voice in public life. he was not a white southern moderate like bill clinton or an african-american minister like jesse jackson or an urban catholic like mario cuomo. the presidential politics there
