. >>> well, we're learning more about what prompted sonoma county sheriff deputies to open fire on a woman following a high-speed pursuit overnight. alex savidge mass more on -- has more on this. >> reporter: a violent end to a dangerous high-speed chase. just after midnight, sonoma county sheriff deputies shot and critically injured a woman in this business park near sebastopol. investigators say that driver backed her car up into deputies knocking three of them to the ground. and that's when they evened fire -- opened fire. this pursuit started a ways away near windsor where deputies tried to stop the woman for driving backward on highway 101. she sped off and was seen going well over 100 miles an hour on the freeway. >> the high rate of speed, it poses a substantial risk to the public and the deputies and to her. we have no reason to understand why she wouldn't stop for them. >> reporter: santa rosa police were put in charge of this investigation which is standard procedure for the sonoma county sheriff's office whenever deputies are involved in a shooting. investigators tell us t
