let's get the latest from our diplomatic editor, james bays in lausanne switzerland where those talks are taking place. james, any news at all? >> well, there certainly are as you say marathon talks. they went right through the night, john kerry and the iranian foreign minister actually eight and a half hours a series of their meetings went on for ending just before 6:00 a.m. they had just a brief break then and were back around the table talking. i have to say different information coming from different delegations some more upbeat than others. certainly the iranians saying that they hope to be able to go back to tehran in the coming hours. they'll be on friday in tehran, and that something will have been achieved here. the big question is what that something will be. the obama administration said they are going to get a framework agreement out of this. what are they going to end up with? i asked iran's foreign minister. >> just a statement or an agreement? >> no, the agreement is supposed to come on june 30 if we are all working well, and very lucky, so what we expect today is a sta

we begin with a hard-fought agreement in switzerland. after negotiations, iran and western powers have reached a framework deal over to ron -- tehran's atomic future. here is what the outline looks like. reduce by 2/3 the number of centrifuges used to enrich uranium. allow inspections anywhere in iran by the iaea. stop using in iraq for plutonium production and sanctions relief in return for verifiable compliance. we need to make sure to ron -- tehran is agreeing with the framework and this is being hailed as a breakthrough, but nothing is official yet negotiators have until the end of june to reach a comprehensive deal. one thing is certain. not everyone hails this is a breakthrough. israeli premier says any deal with iran threatens israel's future. he joins us from jerusalem. i understand the prime minister is in a cabinet meeting discussing yesterday's events. correspondent: yes, he is. he was raised by the u.s. president last night and is in turn briefing the cabinet. they are to decide the strategy for the next three months until th

let's head to switzerland and check in with elise lab blabatt. tell us. >> reporter: carol, the deadline came and went. negotiators kept talking. they said there was enough progress that merited more talking. there are key issues that remain unsolved. we're talking about them for days. we're talking about the pace of lifting sanctions. the amount of enriched uranium and advance bed nuclear technology iran could do towards the end of the deal and also the stockpile of enriched uranium. these are key issues. there's been a lot of progress made but the key issues remain unresolved. what we're looking at is perhaps later today, maybe early tomorrow some kind of vague general statement of political agreements but very notably it will not include some of the areas where there are disagreement and the agreement here is really to keep talking, carol. >> so it went from a deal to a framework to a general statement? >> well the u.s. always wanted a framework deal. the iranians have been clear they want one deal at the end of june. that's the big comprehens

crowd's turned out in tehran to give the foreign minister a hero's welcome as he arrived back from switzerland. many of them were young. the younger generation has been hit especially hard i years of economic crisis. the lifting of sanctions could make life much easier. >> i'm here to welcome mr. szczerbiak to thank him for the great job he did and the great job -- the big favor he did us. he tried to make up for the 10 years of our lives that were lost. >> a framework agreement was reached after eight days of talks. details will be worked out by the end of june. iran has promised to reduce its uranium enrichment capacitie by 2/3. it is also subjecting itself to strict oversight by the united nations nuclear watchdog, the iaea. in return, many of the sanctions on iran will be eased or lifted. the iranian president said the framework agreement would help relax tensions with a number of other countries. >> if the opposite side meets its promises, then iran will, too. if one day they wish to choose a different path, our nation will also have options open to it. >> at friday prayers, a senior cler

it's very much reflected in what's going on in the talks in switzerland. since the former dictator has somehow given some word to show that what he has received as a warning from the saudi defense minister that aden is a red line not to cross over and he wants to prove that they can cross over the red line and there are, you know forces behind them which could prove effective. unfortunately, the allied arab forces have to a certain extent you know lost concentration on the ball. yes, the houthis are now in aden and are besieged and so on but this is proving to be very very hard on the civilians in aden. they are very much suffering. the situation is very grave in aden itself. besides that the former dictator is trying to push the so-called al quaeda you know group which is very much related to him. the people who took over are very much related to the former president. the whole situation is grave and things are going towards the end which the former dictator was all the time threat enning the world that he would put yemen in chaos and they have got to com

agreement, to limit the capacity of enriched nuclear materials, the uranium has been reached there in switzerland. we have iran agreeing to limit production of the same time that the eu and the world powers have agreed to lift sanctions. the lifting of those sanctions will not take place until july 1.
