let's go straight to our jennifer gray. she is on the ground in cisco, texas, where that tornado, jennifer touched down yesterday during this program, killing one person. how are things looking where you are now? >> well these are okay right now. most of the storms that we are seeing are off to our south and our east. you can see the skies just over my shoulder, a little ominous out there. we are seeing some cumulus clouds building outs to the west though so we will have to see if some of that could develop, we will get more storms here this afternoon. i do want to quickly mention though we still have some tornado warnings, tornadoes in progress around the sherman area. had is north of the dallas metroplex it is traveling to the northeast about 40 miles per hour. spot verse seen the tornado and so we want to you take cover, if you are in that area. we also have a new tornado warning, this is in the hamilton area south of dallas. this is just to the west of waco. so take cover if you are in these areas. that he is are very d

we have jennifer gray there. >> reporter: this is west of dallas in the town of cisco. this is an area hardest hit by the storms on saturday. you see the trees behind snapped in half. preliminary reports are saying it was an ef-3 tornado that came through here and caused extensive damage three quarters of a mile wide and a path of seven miles long. we were up at a higher elevation. you see the trees snapped. a couple of miles in that direction, we have been told that three homes were a total loss. we can can't't get to them. trees are down covering the road. unfortunately, one person died in the storms on saturday. three others injured. at last report one person in critical condition. we talked to the public information officer from the area. he said they had tornadoes before but none has really impacted many structures. this is the hardest they have been hit in the area. more storms in the forecast later today. john and christine. >> jennifer gray thank you for that. >>> this afternoon, two mississippi police officers will be honored at a memorial service. officials sa

jennifer gray closely tracking this storm system in the cnn severe weather center. jennifer give us the update. what's going on? >> we still have that active tornado warning on the outskirts of chickashay. it's 45 miles southwest of oklahoma city traveling northeast at 15 miles per hour. hovering right along i-44. we know that schools are keeping kids in until this storm is over, which is good news. so go pick up your kids after. this is a very dangerous situation. it's all part of a broader system. so we are going to continue to monitor it throughout the afternoon. tornado watches in effect for much of the night, jake. >> jennifer gray, we'll continue to monitor that storm system throughout the hour. >>> our politics lead now, the clinton campaign defiant today. former president bill clinton firing back against allegations of potential wrongdoing including foreign donations made to the clinton foundation while his wife was secretary of state. some express the belief that questions about these donations to the foundation will severely damage clinton's candidacy. and

let's get the latest from our meteorologist jennifer gray. she is joining us from the cnn severe weather center. what is the latest jennifer? >> we have a tornado emergency in effect right now that includes portions of moore, as well as oklahoma city. we have two boxes we are watching. the one on the north side is the tornado emergency. we do have a storm heading to the north and east will impact portions of oklahoma city as well as moore. we heard the airport is already evacuating. they are sending people to their emergency tunnel. portions of the interstate have been shut down due to debris on the road. this is a very dangerous situation. the one on the south side this is a warning. this includes norman new castle. this is an area that has seen destructive tornadoes. you mentioned 2013. remember 1999 the strongest tornado ever recorded on earth was in this area. this has a history of violent tornadoes. looks like we are seeing another one. we have reports of a large and dangerous tornado on the ground in this area and heading to the northea

we have standing by live cnn's rosa flores and meteorologist jennifer gray. i also have chad myers here with me to walk through all this as well. first, roesarosa let's go to you. you're in houston watching this whole cleanup process. as you're talking to all these people how many people actually have flood insurance? >> reporter: you know it's tough for folks here. there's about 1400 structures in houston that have been impacted. all those are people. people that are now in their homes with a lot of water damage. i want to show you the power of the water and the surge specifically. this is what made this particular storm so dangerous. take a look right over here. this is all debris from a bayou that's about 200 feet from where i'm standing. you can see the surge coming through, pushing through those cars and into homes. i talked to the owner of this particular house. she tells me it was about 2:00 in the morning. the water started rising. her family started jumping on the counters of her kitchen to stay dry. they have two dogs. they put the dogs on top of th

. >> jennifer gray along the blanco river. >>> the weather pattern is hitting the town hard where 4 inches of rain fell in oklahoma. the weather service says water reached the top of car tires. you can see it. the water reaching the top of car tires in the storm. >>> there is more severe weather in the forecast. all the way through the weekend. meteorologist derek van dam has more. >> we have received so much rain across the plains, it is visible from space. taken from nasa satellites. this is the arkansas river flowing to the mississippi river. notice how it flooded its banks and continuing to expand past capacity. it continues to flow downstream to the mississippi. there is the potential going forward. we have 157 locations along various rivers and streams reporting flood stage conditions. we have flood watches and flood warnings ongoing from oklahoma to eastern portions of texas with more rain in store. there is some improvement in store for early parts of next week. showers and thunderstorms forecast into the weekend. that includes saturday and sunday. oklahoma city to austin and the p

i want to bring in our meteorologist, jennifer gray. what are you seeing out there? >> we have seen pictures coming in like that and unfortunately, some of the areas we've seen we're seeing more storms coming through the same areas p. and this is the newest one and it includes oklahoma city, the downtown area and wood lawn park and of course, we still have this tornado warning a little bit to the southwest of that and that is going to continue to push to the north and east. this includes grady counties bridge creak and now we're seeing more storms come through that same area. huge concern is going to be the flooding. when you have this much rain with storms in the same area you're going to get a lot of flooding. >> jennifer thanks very much. that does it for up on you. or do we change and find ourselves sneaking up, washing up, ending up in miami? ♪ i took a walk through this beautiful world ♪ ♪ felt the cool rain on my

jennifer gray is standing at a campground totally destroyed. at the time the storms rolled through, there were several hundred people in the cabins. >> reporter: yep, they're estimating 400 people here on the campground when the floods hit. waters came up so fast. the good news about this everyone got out. they knew what to do. they knew that it was happening. they evacuated all of the people here. i mean, just look at this. the devastation there, debris all over the banks. the river is down there still raging. i don't know if you can see it pouring over that bridge that concrete bridge. the water level has gone down quite a bit, but it is still running high. this is normally a very calm river where people come but not today. it came up to about 44 feet. look at all of these slabs. these cabins. people were staying in these cabins friday and saturday night until they were swept away. now they're all the way on the other side of the street. they're just tangled, all on each other. crews have been out here cleaning up the mess. you can look at th

jennifer gray is all over this. what are you seeing? >> we have a tornado warning for lincoln county. and that's until 3:15 central time. impacting the city of bernard. this is moving to the north-northeast. we have had multiple reports of a tornado on the ground. if you are in this area, make sure you seek shelter immediately. get into a small interior room. if you have a storm shelter, that's where you'll be the safest. try to put as many walls as you can between yourself and the outside. that's where you're going to be the safest. this is all part of a broader system that stretches everywhere from kansas all the way down into oklahoma, as far south as texas. we have a tornado watch in effect until 9:00 central time for portions of kansas and also portions of oklahoma and even texas. this is also a tornado watch until 9:00. you're looking at some live pictures now in oklahoma. you see ominous skies out there. stay updated. we have some pretty nasty weather headed your way throughout the rest of the evening into the overnight. this is

jennifer gray, thank you very much. >>> there are stori. stori. story. but this next one breaks your heart. out of divine, texas. an accomplished high school athlete was tragically killed by the flash flooding. 18-year-old alissa ramirez was student council president, cheerleader, and homecoming queen. she of her way home from prom this past weekend when her car became tangled in the fast-moving floodwater. joining me on the phone is one of alissa's friends, her name is alice, as well. alice -- alissa as well. alissa schmidt. my condolences to you and all your dear friends. i know you all were so close. just first, how are you holding up today? >> caller: well, we're just trying to stay together as a close-knit group of friends as a family really. we've had a lot of support, but we know the family needs more support. and we're trying to stay together and just be together. that's what she'd want. she'd want us to be together and be a group. >> take me back to this weekend and prom. i know you two girls were getting ready together before the big night. tel

jennifer gray has more on that part of the story from wimberley, texas. >> reporter: 11 people are still missing. three have tied. one adult female two adult males. we haven't identified them yet though. we are looking at the blanco river. this is where it all started. the water that's now lowered significantly came up. it would have been over my head over the weekend and you can see it now still raging. you can see the water coming over that hump. it's actually a concrete bridge. it does give you perspective as to how high the water still is. look at the debris. all of the trees just littering the banks. these were once cabins. we're at seven acres resort. they had over 20 cabins. close to 30. a lot of these on the front row have been completely swept away. you can see this green building right here. this was under water. you can see the water mark on the very very top of that building. then if you follow me over here this is another one of the cabins. these are up high. more than 40 feet above where the river sits. you can see the water marks. so water in these cabins were chest deep.

i've got jennifer gray. she attended today's news conference where the grieving families expressed hope and thanks. jennifer tough to hear from them. >> reporter: yeah i mean it was a tough day. here we are going on day five. these four families are needing any bit of -- they're holding on to hope even though they are starting to lose hope at the same time. they're trying to keep their spirits high but they also know the reality of what happened that night. it was tough, seeing them standing back there. they didn't speak, but they did stand behind the podium. you know your heart goes out to them because it took a lot of strength to do that. it took a lot of heart to do that. you know, they're just waiting to hear. the pieces of new information that we did hear though eight missing, four fatalities. three of those have been identified. one is still pending identification. the latest person to be identified was michelle charba. the rest of her family is still missing, including her husband, her son, and her pa

jennifer gray joins us from cisco, texas. what is expected in the coming hours? >> reporter: we are a couple miles away from where several homes suffered a total loss. just down the hill here this is about as far as we can go because we have downed trees and downed power lines covering the road. so we are not able to get access. i can tell you just judging by the field we are standing in front of you can see trees basically snipped right in half. of course this is part of the area where the tornado ripped through. it is estimated to be about 3/4 mile wide and did a path of destruction about seven miles. it hit the hardest right here south of cisco and lifted, tornado came back down once again a couple miles away just to the south. we've seen people out in the field looking for things. maybe things that were taken from their own homes. a couple of people have been back and forth and said those houses just beyond that bend are a total loss. of course we have had severe weather for the past several days in a row here in the south, the southern plains. we have been t

our jennifer gray is live from van, texas. jennifer, what are you seeing? >> reporter: we are seeing a lot of devastation here in van. i want to reiterate that report was coming from our local affiliate. we're anxiously awaiting a press conference that's going to take place here about an hour. that's when we'll hear from local authorities to maybe get some confirmation on some of the facts around here. we're looking just behind me, the devastation, the worst of it that we have seen a couple hundred yards that way. we keep getting moved back more and more as crews try to get in and restore power, cut up a lot of those limbs that were fallen on the power lines so we can get this city back up and running again. we have seen several ambulances move through that area. we've also seen more and more law enforcement move in and so we're trying to get power restored and cell service for a lot of people as well. the red cross is here. we're in the first baptist church parking lot where a shelter is for anybody that needs assistance and like i mentioned, that press co

jennifer gray is live in van this morning with more. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, carol. our affiliate is reporting that there are multiple fatalities and there could be people missing and so there are people going door to door making sure everyone is accounted for and make sure everyone is okay. just look at the destruction behind me. you can see trees snapped in half. power lines littering the roads. crews are up here cutting up trees trying to get power restored. a lot of people have lost cell service. that brick building back there is the original school in van and they still use it for their gymnasium. i took a closer look a couple hours ago. the roof is completely blown off. insulation sagging within. everything inside the building is now out and most of the windows have been blown out. just a lot of destruction around here. in fact several blocks here have major damage. some of the homes completely destroyed. we're hearing that roughly 30% of the town has sustained some sort of damage whether a total loss or tr

jennifer gray meteorologist joins us with the latest. what is going on out there, jennifer. >> this is a dangerous one we've been tracking for an hour now. a large tornado on the ground and possible cell with multiple vort issies. this is at about 25 miles per hour and about to cross over i-35 in denton. it is no north -- to the north of you, but if you are in denton take cover. this is in effect until 8:00 central time and they keep extending it so it could stay on the ground for longer. so be on the lookout if you are in north texas in that area. oklahoma city has cleared out. that is where we saw the rough weather yesterday. but rough rain again tonight. yesterday they set a report. 7 inches of rain. a little bit more. that was the rainiest day on record as far as yesterday was concerned. third rainiest day ever in oklahoma city. not only talking about the severe weather, but snow in the forecast as well and that will make the next couple of days very very tricky as far as that severe weather goes. we could see some danger weather. in

jennifer gray is in texas. we hear more rain might be coming there's at least for five days? >> reporter: yeah, now through the weekend at least. we're looking at more rain. the amounts vary. where i am, maybe an inch or less. but areas like dallas and into oklahoma, they could see a couple of inches. that's the last thing this area needs because the river behind me the blanco river, are filled to capacity, to the brim. they have gone down considerably. but still seeing water flowing over bridges. that's what you're seeing there behind that tree. you see the flow of water, incredible. this area where i'm standing, it's a resort. you see all the debris around. but the people here the night of the flood knew what to do and they were ready. the cabins at this resort along the blanco river were filled to capacity the swimming pool prepped and ready for the memorial day weekend until a wall of water and mud rushed in. >> it started going into the swimming pool. it's just weird because it's just a brown -- like the blob that oozes. you can see it moving all the way over. then it ca

i want to bring in our meteorologist jennifer gray. she's in wimberly texas, right here the state capital of austin where dozens 0 people are still missing. what's the latest jennifer you're seeing there? >> reporter: well wolf this is deaf stating. this is his store rick as well. we've never seen a flooding like this every in this area. back in the 1920s they had the flooding where the river rose to 33 feet. this time it rose at least 10 feet higher than that and that's before the flood gauge went offline. what you're dealing with images like this the home completely washed off the foundation all along the street and vary streets along the river, you're seeing images exactly like this one. homes completely destroyed. 400 homes completely destroyed. and about 1,000 heavily damaged. we're up on a bluff. so to put some perspective in this we're up on a bluff so the water was well above my head at the worst of it on sunday. so you can see as we pan around and you look down there at the river, the river has gone down considerably. you can

jennifer gray is live now. what's going on? >> reporter: it's hard to believe that less than two days ago water was above my head. the flood stage rose to 43 feet. that's when the gauge broke. you can see houses behind me wiped clear off their foundation up to 400 homes destroyed, about 1,000 more damaged. and the stories coming out of wimberly and the surrounding areas are just devastating. tonight devastating images of destruction and heartbreaking stories of those lost and still missing after relentless severe weather cripples texas and oklahoma. hundreds of homes washed away in hayes, county texas, in flood waters that have left some of america's largest cities under water. >> we've got a loss of life cars littered all over the city. as the flood waters go down that's one of the things we're doing to make sure no one was trapped in those vehicles. >> reporter: president obama spoke to texas governor greg abbott on tuesday offering the support of the federal government. >> our thoughts and prayers are with the families and t

jennifer gray thank you so much. you see these homes, people have lost so much. then others just happened to be passing through, including the next guest i'm about to bring in. amy johnson was driving, happened to be driving from georgia to dallas when this awful weather hit. amy, you're a recent university of georgia grad. you're heading to dallas. then tell me what you saw, what you heard. >> so we were coming about ten minutes ahead of van. we were driving through. the weather was just getting too bad that we knew we had to pull over. lightning was striking from what i could tell, just basically on the road. it was too hectic. i was with my boyfriend. we pulled over and took shelter in the first place we could find. that happened to be a hardee's. we weren't alone. there was about 50 other people sitting in the restaurant. the power had gone out. our phones were dying. we were trying to check the radar. no one really knew what exactly was going on. but the hardee's employees were giving out blankets and food. and they wererying to keep everyone calm. a little

jennifer gray is out front at the storm prediction center in norman oklahoma. we're talking about a rare unprecedented storm system that you're looking at right now. >> yeah. we are looking at major storms we're looking at snowstorms in the rockies open a tropical system. it's sort of the weather trifecta here this weekend. we're looking at dangerous storms on the texas/oklahoma line. we have tornado warnings in effect for cotton and jefferson counties in oklahoma and clay county in texas. there are reports of a tornado on the ground there. if buyers area as well as hastings hastings. we have been looking at a couple of other tornado warnings in texas just a little bit southwest of wichita falls. this one that we're speaking of the tornado possibly on the ground it is actually to the northeast of wichita falls right on the texas-oklahoma line. this is not the only night of severe weather. we've been talking about severe weather pretty much every single night this week and the threat continues. as we go today, saturday and even into sunday, and we could see it r

jennifer gray joins us from cisco, texas. about 100 miles west of ft. worth. what are residents and officials doing to prepare? >> reporter: they are picking up the pieces today and hoping for the best as we go through the afternoon. as you said more storms in the forecast this afternoon. that's the last thing you want to hear. if you've already sustained tornado damage we are here in front of a field and you can see just one example of what the tornado has done. unfortunately, we can't get farther because the roads are impassable. we have trees down. we have power lines down. just around this bend we hear three homes are a total loss. there's other damage around the area as well. this is a rural area, as you mentioned. cisco is just a couple of miles north of where we are. we have had damage about 3/4 of a mile wide with destruction path about seven miles in length. that's a pretty vast area. unfortunately, we did have one person die, three others injured. one critical. >> terrible situation. being so rural, i imagine it's tough to get some of those folks hel

. >> jennifer gray thank you so much. >>> go now to wharton, texas, about 2.5 hours closer to the gulf coast. the mayor there, domingo mantabo jr. joins me on the phone. mayor, thanks for joining us. as i understand it you're a lifelong wharton resident. have you ever seen anything like this before? >> well we've experienced some flooding like this before and fortunately, we can plan. it's -- we certainly -- our hearts go out to the folks with the flash flooding upon them and surprised them, but we're very fortunate here to be able to plan. # . we have time to get folks out of harm's way. >> as i understand it the concern are for those who live on the west side of wharton. are most people listening to your calls and those from other emergency officials for voluntary evacuations? >> yes, sir. i think that's the advantage of being born and raised here, and knowing most of the people. the people that live here in the community. they are taking heed to the warning. the other thing is we are a small community. so we're able to touch every door in order to make sure that all of our citizens

so let's begin our coverage in hays county with cnn meteorologist jennifer gray. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, carol. we're standing right in front of those homes as you mentioned. some wiped comepletely off their foundation. i want to start with the river. the river is down now. just a couple days ago it was as high as i'm standing. it rose 43 feet triple its flood stage and it did it very very quickly. you can see the trees on the other side of the bank and even the ones on the same side that we're standing on just laying over. this is the power of water. it has ripped bark completely off trees and the river was once this high. swing around. i want to show you the power of this. you said 300 to 400 homes completely destroyed. this one here wiped totally off its foundation and it's a total loss. so this entire street that we're standing on all of the homes look exactly like this. they are completely destroyed. this one has a green sticker on it with a black x. you can only hope that was good news. rescuers came in and didn't find anyone hopefull

let's get to meteorologist jennifer gray in wimberley, texas. the stories of people with nowhere to go as the waters keep rising keep coming in. >> reporter: they do, chris. it's gut wrenches. 13 people still missing here in hays county we have three deaths and 11 people still missing. they recovered another body last night. they found all three people in the blanco river. of course they identified them as one adult female and two males. they haven't released the names. it has been so sad here across the area as those flood waters just rose so quickly and people had little time to escape. look behind me. this is an example. we are on a campsite here right along the blanco river just downstream of where we were all day yesterday. and you can see the destruction. trees littered all across the area. and you can see that home or cabin is just looks like it was swept away and now it's just hanging off on that embankment. we are hearing more about the people as well in those final moments. laura mccombs called her sister just moments before she was sw

let's go to jennifer gray. we do not have her shot back up, but she's in a vehicle so we have her on the phone. what are you seeing? >> reporter: we left norman oklahoma about two hours ago. we're traveling south on i-44. we're heading into north texas because that's one area we're really focused on. the storm prediction center has inkrees increased the threat level there. we think some nasty storms are going to start firing up in the next couple hours. we're following a storm chase team from the university of oklahoma and howard is our fearless leader here. they have a radar, a doppler on wheels that they are going to place ahead of the storm and try to put it inside the storm. they are out here doing research and what it does is help our forecasting capability and we learn a lot from these storms. we're following them out here to the area. we're going to see what we can see. and we have about four or five-car caravan we're going to head into the storms in the next couple hours. >> stay safe, thank you for tha

go to our meteorologist jennifer gray over at the storm prediction in norman oklahoma. what do we know jennifer? >> reporter: wolf, radio itight now a tornado warning near are the vernon area in texas along the red river. in fact wilbarger county expires in about 30 minutes. this has been a healthy storm. so there's a possibility that the national weather service could extend it beyond the next 30 minutes. we have nasty storms as well that are, we're tracking just west of oklahoma city and the norman area where we are. you know we've been on your show the past couple of days talking about the severe weather threat. a multiday event and we have seen nasty storms, tornadoes and the possibility of that remains for today as well as tomorrow. so we're going to be watching them closely. in fact we are here at the storm prediction center. the folk behind me working hard monitoring the weather keeping ip updated on the weather here in oklahoma and around the rest of the country. the plains the area to watch today going into the weekend. >> we'll keep in close touch. keep up inf

let's go to you before jennifer. we have seen multiple tornadoes spotted and touching down. >> absolutely. the latest one that you touched on a few seconds ago, about 70 miles west of fort worth, sitting near the town of ranger. the radar signature out of cisco was showing a lot of debris. potential for large tornado on the ground across this region as it tracks over some 2500 people. again, it is not the only one. you shift attention to the north, wichita falls, tornado warning for 11,000 people. this particular region hard hit and a series of tornado warnings popping up meaning tornado conditions are imminent or occurring. there are two reports in nrs west of dallas by an hour's drive. broaden that perspective. we had over six reports of tornado, seven, with five out of eastern colorado the past couple hours. the activity is definitely picking up. this is what it looked like. you look at the forecast models taking you in the next 60 minutes, show you a large complex of storms popping up in and around dallas metro.
