meteorologist kathy orr is in the weather center now with some details. kathy? >> we have some rain, we have some thunderstorms and some gusty winds chris. cold front is moving through and you can see through philadelphia we have some yellows and oranges oranges. some thunder showers who are moving across the river from port richmond to palmyra heading through ivy wood into maple shade riverton and moorestown, new jersey. another band of very heavy rain with gusty winds heading down the shore right along the expressway through galloway, egg harbor city and heading toward absecon also atlantic city. temperatures are cooling down fast behind this front and in reading it's 70. 69 in lancaster. but behind that cold front state college 62. cleveland 54. that is the cooler air that is moving our way. so overnight showers and scattered thunderstorms downpours some lightning and winds gusting to 30 miles an hour. this makes a huge change for our weather tomorrow. we'll talk about that and looking ahead to the weekend and mother's day with your seven day. i'll see you la

kathy? >> when you look at the weather map it was that localized area, jessica, and for hours we just saw the rain coming down in the area of toms river eastern ocean county and we're talking about flash flooding you saw those amazing pictures. so as far as the amounts are concerned, we're talking about a bulls eye of about 4-inches around seaside heights where you see the yellow near seaside park about 3.5-inches of rain. some of these amazeing totals island heights thee .74. over 3-inches in toms river and even towards seaside heights two to 4-inches of rain this is what actually happened. there was a sea breeze that set up. that's when you have that cooler ocean water pushes inland in this particular area it didn't move as far inland as further shore points a little bit further south like atlantic city and sea isle city a front is created and along that front you get some rising air. the air rises on the land. we form clouds. and of course, those clouds create some rain showers. and the h

kathy munch looked north toward lake sonoma and captured this. the says, i think this is a funnel -- she says, i think this is a funnel cloud. kathy was spot on. what is a funnel cloud? it's basically a tornado that never does touch down. if it does, it becomes a bona fide tornado. this is a wide shot of this funnel cloud as it is beginning to break apart. what was so beneficial and helpful for us is photograph number 3. when i submitted all these photographs to the national weather service, meteorologist charles bell told me you could clearly see some of that rotation right there associated with that funnel cloud. therefore, we classified it as a weak funnel cloud. but indeed, very rare for this area. but very important to note because we have a very significant area of low pressure. look at all the wraparound moisture throughout the central valley. you can see all those lightning bolts. you have there some light to moderate rainfall throughout the tri-valley that 580/680 corridor. that caught my eye. we have had some lightning strikes in tracy.

and what we can expect through this evening as well, kathy? >>> the amount of water that is fall when those storms, in ocean county, is absolutely incredible chris. we're talking about two 3 inches of rain and it continues to flood there. as far as we're concerned here in sea isle right now sunnies still out the but it is chilly. our temperature according to the mobile weather lab only 64 degrees. ocean water temperatures in the 50's. so it will stay cool here. take a look at storm scan , we do have a isolated storm that has popped autopsy long the border of delaware county and philadelphia county. some showers interior south jersey, so they could be moving toward our shore points. we are cool with the air more stable here along the shore but look at that in ocean county a lightening and heavy rain in toms river route 37 is flooded in many locations and, of course, we have heard of those water rescues. you can see through stafford, even heading toward harvey cedars along lbi some heavy rain as it this is pushing toward the the south on route n

meteorologist kathy orr is here now to explain more. kathy? >>> jess cash we had the warm dry conditions and with a little bit of wind through south jersey we saw this on storm scan3. here's the smoke plume from the this afternoon and we're still getting some returns from that. the southwesterly winds are pushing this toward the north and the west and we're talking about smelling the smoke as far to the north as northeast philadelphia residents there wonder wagon it was tonight. and those south southwesterly winds had continue into the overnight hours. now, during the day tomorrow there is a fire risk because of the dry conditions. the high temperature going for 83 degrees. still a relatively low humidity. dry brush and we haven't had rain in over two weeks. and that trend is going to continue. something that could get in the way of fighting the fire come tomorrow morning. dense fog that's going to be through south jersey and delaware. createing visibility issues for everyone and with the dense fog we do anticipate on shore flow that will cont

meteorologist kathy orr is tracking that storm threat. kathy, what can we expect and when? >> we have heavy rain moving through the region right now and also some fog. two different weather stories going on. normally we see our skyline from our cbs3 studios. visibility is poor in many locations tonight something you want to be aware of come tomorrow morning. visibilities right now reduced to zero in the poconos, about a mile and a half in dover. you can see in trenton only a mile visibility and in many of our suburbs where you see the white, that is reduced visibility. even in places like bucks county quakertown, only a half mile visibility at this hour. now, on storm scan3 we're looking at a line of showers and thunderstorms that are moving in from the west, moving through lancaster county heading into berks county. also into chester county. a lot of this heavy rain moving eastward and a few rumbles of thunder. now we have some drier air that's trying to block this from moving in but i still think some showers will move in overnight. you can see some 50's through allentown

orr is keeping her eye on the radar she has her first forecast now kathy. >> we have some hours storms and some fog that the tail of two different weather systems work ago begins thus afternoon. ocean city, cape may county, you can see fog that ocean air that marine layer moving in with a stiff easterly win it is cool, and it is foggy. the visibility reduced in many locations down the shore .8 of a mile in atlantic city airport. fogged in along jersey shore and poconos visibility sits at zero. can see that we have some activity through state of delaware but this is dying down thankfully and another line of showers thunderstorms to the west, but we do have that on shore flow, and that is keeping it dry through the the philadelphia area, and northward, that dry air is expected to create a little bit of the roadblock so youe these storms to the west, they hud be dying out as they encounter the dryer air over philadelphia and its suburbs. we have that flood advisory once again for poor train age areas until 8:00 for central delaware. for rest of us it will be dry. on shore flow pulling in

kathy: the average person is not seen job increases, they are worried about their jobs. according to resurvey today, the concern about job losses is the most that we have seen since 2009, when we were at the bottom and very pessimistic. worried, andare baby boomers are not retiring, they are actually working, which is not leaving jobs open for the younger set, 60% of the five-year-olds are living at home. 54% of 30-year-olds are living a home. mark: carl, interestingly enough, ms. boyle points out the audit limit factor, but the headline and numbers show that things are going and the right direction, but help us sift through the numbers. what is going on underneath that we might not be aware of? carl: in terms of unemployment numbers, there is a downshift from what we were experiencing later part of last year, so we are chugging along, but if we add the revisions, we only have a gain of about 185,000 jobs, so that allows for march and a little bit improvement in april. households are not seeing wage improvements yet. it is probably not going to show up until we cross tha
