emily: what about mobile? how are they doing when it comes to mobile? cory: it's important but not near as much as the console games for these guys. the quality of games they bought from rockstar and grand theft auto, the same with evil -- evolve, it's where the money is in this sector. emily: cory johnson, thank you so much. in particularly, this broad trend and movement when it comes to mobile gaming. joining us to discuss his tim o'neil, head of gaming at the mobile marketing company -- head of marketing at the mobile gaming company toon. take two is a company that is still very much reliant on the console and on pc. we see a lot of disruption on mobile gaming. or do you see them standing in the landscape? >> they are positioned correctly. they are sitting on titles that are unique to them. if they bring a lot of those console titles, they will now be able to have them on their site. >> i don't they focus on mobile? >> it is a unique part of the industry. emily: we are having trouble hearing kevin. why doesn't take to focus on mobile if they have the

good morning. >> good morning. >> mobile goes from 27 to 51. they're talking about a trillion in gmv in five years. does this erase all the doubts that people had since november? >> it certainly erases one of the biggest doubts. that last quarter, that's the december quarter, carl, there was a lot of concern over the mobile monetization levels. it's shifting from desk top to mobile and the monetization rates were declining year over year. that reversed this quarter and the company seems to be confident that they can continue to rise the mobile monetization levels. big issue number one which caused it to be the biggest underperformer has been reversed. >> i think the question mark is yes maybe they'll be able to raise mobile monetization levels. to where? as they shift more revenue, which mobile revenue up 352% and astounding level of growth there as it becomes a bigger percentage of the company's revenue, how does that affect the overall makeup of the business model? >> yeah, so you know, first you got to go where the consumers are, they're goi

you have the general mobile internet guys primarily around local search. they want maps to show where people are, find places, things like that. on the other hand the automotive guys are really trying to move beyond the navigation that you might have in your car today to really high precision navigation where they're looking at things like what lane are you on and high precision things that lead to autonomous vehicles ultimately. you have this data set being pulled in two different directions. and so you've got the automotive guys with their requirements and you have the mobile internet guys with their requirements. one way to look at this is what do you get if you buy here? the other way to look at it is what do you lose if someone in the other camp buys here? because they're unlikely to invest in the technology that you want. marc: you didn't mention apple. why not? well, apple obviously has built a huge mapping effort since they sort of stumbled a couple years ago. they built a really big team hiring a lot of guys. apple right now is built on pompom map

they are really good in the mobile video space. that is where all of the growth is in terms of advertising. that is an arena in which verizon wants to get into. in regards to how much money they paid, while $4.4 billion sounds like a lot it is only a drop in the bucket for verizon. this is a company that made 130 billion dollars last year. it is the largest wireless network in the united states. it has the cash to spend on aol. laura: what is it mean for the american consumer who does not have $130 billion, and is just paying bills to verizon? >> it is early in the game. the deal still has to close. if you look at the language verizon is using, it wants to be a one-stop shop for customers. the customer would use their wireless internet, mobile phone services, and they would get content from aol. aol owns "the huffington post" techcrunch, and other media. verizon hopes they will get access to all of that content and that is what they will offer to consumers. everything all in one. laura: does verizon hope to become more of a broadca

you have the general mobile internet guys who are looking at local search. they want maps to show where people are, find places. on the other hand, the automotive guys are trying to move beyond navigation that you may have in your car today to really high precision navigation wherein they are looking -- where they are looking at things like what lane you are at and could eventually lead into autonomous driving vehicles. so you have the automotive guys with their requirements and you have the mobile internet guys. one way to look at this is what you get if you buy. the other way to look at it is what you lose if somebody else gets it. they are likely to invest in the technology that you want. cory: you did not mention apple, why not? >> apple has built a huge mapping effort since they stumbled a couple years ago. they are hiring a lot. right now, apple is built on tom-tom maps. there is a lot of speculation that apple is building their own mapping data. it is a huge task. google did it, surprised everyone, a very big task, but apple certainly has the resource
