with me from baltimore is msnbc's trymaine lee. we have major developments in the case of freddie gray, who sustained fatal injuries. baltimore police handed over the results of their investigation to the states attorney who was just sworn in in january. it will be up to her office to decide whether to pursue charges. police also revealed that the police van carrying gray made a previously undisclosed stop on its way to the station, discovered only after reviewing foot and from a privately owned camera. today a station reported new information on injuries who claimed that they found gray's catastrophic injury was caused when he slammed into the back of the police transport van, apparently breaking his neck. a head injury he sustained matches a bolt in the back of the van. and the mysterious second prisoner who was in the van with gray has now been revealed. today he spoke to an investigative reporter in baltimore. we will have that exclusive, extended interview just ahead. you and i were talking last night when we were out in front

trymaine, are people clearing out? >> i'll tell you what, there is a crowd. the bulk of it has cleared out, but the helicopters are flying lower, shining the lights down on the streets, giving the directive to disperse. the police chief is out here ahead of the curfew. he said his guys are trying to wait it out, they're hopeful things will work out. but, again, here we are, another night, another curfew. folks are hanging in there. >> and that motorcycle experience is just somebody showing off or is that a police situation? >> that certainly is somebody showing off. >> baltimore famous for its -- one of the things in baltimore is famous for. >> trymaine, in terms of one of the things we've seen the last couple of nights has been community leaders and others, people trying to be constructive in the streets telling people to leave, telling people to get home, not leaving it just to police to make those -- to make those arguments. are you seeing that tonight or is there no need for that tonight? >> you know, there's really no need. i did see a few of the players

trymaine, thanks for being with us. what do you think is going to happen as we head toward 10:00 p.m.? do you think the curfew will go into effect tonight the way it has the last couple of nights? >> reporter: i'll tell you what, rachel -- last couple of hours, at first it was kind of calm, there had been a big march and rally, and people were excited and exuberant. we came out to the corner by the burn-out cvs. but folks started getting kind of chippy. i want to show you what's happening right now. a big group of protesters have locked arms and they were blocking the intersection. now they're going directly into the middle of the street. a while ago the police helicopter circled and made an announcement for your own safety get out of the roadway. the size of the group that has taken over the roadway has gotten larger. they're locking arms and now consuming the entire roadway. meanwhile, there are police lining up on either side of the street. they don't look like they're in any position to take action but they're just

trymaine, the information seems to keep leaking out. now the other man who road in the van with gray is speaking out. can we expect more of this while we're waiting for something official to come out? >> good morning, jose i think it's par for the course in these high-profile cases, wherever there's this vacuum of official information, be it from the state attorney's office, the prosecutor's office or the police, people who have all these different competing interests will fill that vacuum. i think that's what we have here. when the people in the communities aren't getting information from officials, rumors start to spread then you have the information leaking from the police department you have to assume from investigators. so, again, we've seen this time and time again. but it's also very dangerous. when we heard those initial reports about perhaps freddie gray attempted to harm himself and his injuries were as a result of what he did, that really kind of angered people in the community who said it simply didn't pass the smell test. >

trymaine, if you could stand there, as well. the union is now saying they asked marilyn mosby to have a special independent prosecutor but after announcing the charges today, she said she would not turn the case over to a special prosecutor. the union has an attorney who says 5 of the 6 officers gave voluntary statements on the day of gray's arrest. we do not know if one of those statements was that affidavit that was quoted in the washington post, but they are saying here voluntary statements but what we knew yesterday, ari, for example, the pieces of the story were trickling out to us including the commissioner pointing out they didn't know of the stop at that convenience store, which at the time we know of far more stops as revealed in this press conference today with mosby. yesterday we thought it was up to three and one was caught on a private security camera, so while these officers gave their statements on the day of gray's arrest it's clear through the police investigation and state's attorneys office there was more to b

i'm in front of city hall but msnbc's trymaine lee is in the neighborhood where one of the officers charged lives. we have six different officers charged today. where are you and what are you hearing from this neighborhood? >> that's right, i'm in the gilford neighborhood where william porter one of the six officers lived. folks on this block, it's a relatively quiet block and attended a elementary school up the block from where he lived. neighbors said he was a nice respectsful quiet guy who typically would come out and walk his dog. they made a distinction that he wasn't like lots of other young guys who ran around with trouble, he was a nice person. i spoke with four neighbors already who said the same thing, he pretty much kept to himself and that one of the neighbors, a 55-year-old woman said she known him about 16 years. she thinks he must have been in the wrong place at a wrong time with the wrong officers. another young lady who went to school with him in the officer was actually in a class with her little sister said they were just so shocked to hear his name involved in any of thi
