they will try to get these answer from his federal safety regulators and amtrak officials. again, related to this speed control technology. according to federal accident investigators amtrak train 188 was traveling 106 miles an hour, just before it derailed on a curve with the speed limit of 50 miles an hour. eight people killed and 200 people were injured. for years amtrak has used automatic train control technology, on its track to ensure that as trains approach curves, they are traveling at the the reduced speed limit that technology was not installed at the scene of the derailment otherwise ntsb officials say the crash would not have happened. decision on where to install the train control technology was made by a special committee of experts formed two decade ago after speeding amtrak train tea rail around a curve in boston's back bay neighborhood n1 was killed in that accident. but 450 people were injured. so the hearing by the house transportation committee, comes amid these rising concerns about rail safety. there have been seven major passenger and freight train ac

it took eight lives and left hundreds injured and tonight amtrak is promising safety changes. it's tuesday night and the big story on "action news" is the amtrak hearing on what went wrong when train 188 went off the rails in port richmond. john rawlins is live now. >> congress wants answers or new facts at this point in time, it may not be realistic but they wanted to know about the cell phone belonging to the engineer was it operating at the time of the operation at this point it can't tell. >> congress wanted an update from among others from safety investigator on what was learned since last month's crash. it learned little from the ntsb, they found no flaws in the locomotive, and tests from brandon bostian has not come back they have access to the phone but cannot tell if it was used. >> this involves looking at the times from different time zones, the outward facing video cameras and surveillance video. >> amtrak took post crash heat because they only had controls on southbound and not northbound rails
