the one in northern delaware expires at 6:15. localized flooding already. thunderstorms moving through. the heaviest stuff is in delaware right now. over the past few hours we continue to see the rain. philadelphia area and into new jersey. the heavy thunderstorms farther to the south. getting a bit of a lull across a good bit of philadelphia and the northern suburbs, but they're really getting pounded here in new castle county, delaware, and that is going to continue. you can see on the radar estimated rainfall when you see these colors of red and orange that means there is a lot of rain that is already falling. as we go through the morning you're going to see this lull in the activity. future cast here as we go towards late morning doesn't show much of anything but then all of a sudden it explodes around midday with the heating of the day and extremely humid air mass. some of these showers and storms this afternoon are going to be real heavy. give you an idea of how much rain we might get out of this in the next 48 hours is one of the computer models. you

it appears to be weakening a bit and conditions in delaware most of delaware, improving quite a bit, except for right near the pennsylvania border where we have a pretty heavy cell near bocassen. it will be moving towards wilmington. philadelphia moving into new jersey and other areas of heavy rain moving towards vineland and hamilton. the greatest threat of any kind of severe weather is the heavy rain itself. the downpours. the localized flooding as a result. not as much lightning and high winds. so for today we have some showers and storms. then a lull for perhaps a few hours during the morning hours and then the showers start returning around midday. and by the afternoon rush some areas are really going to be getting some heavy showers and storms. still 94 across central and southern delaware. the severe thunderstorm watch for those northern counties continues until 7:00. delaware and extreme south jersey, it continues until 11:00. we have a new severe thunderstorm warning in yellow includes parts of berks county and upper montgomery county and a little portion of chester county. this of course is the main action. it's a line that continues to trek a little bit toward the southeast. the individual storms are racing to the east so it's a bit of a combination of trying to figure out where these things are going but it's near lancaster now and is about to be going into parts of chester county the southern portion of berks county. there's upper montgomery county. you can see the worst of the lightning is in the western side. over 400 lightning strikes just in this area in just a 15-minute period. that's pretty active. there's really nothing behind it so once this line moves through, that's going to be the end of it. we continue to monitor reports of strong winds in these green

again, not for everybody, mostly philadelphia area, south jersey and delaware. flash flooding still possible through the overnight hours too. here is future weather as we go through the next hour we're going to expect more heavy rain moving, especially in southern delaware where the strong storm is approaching. then through the overnight hours and i think a lot of the strong storms will start to move up to the northeast, we'll see a bit of a lull. by 7:00 a.m. for the morning commute, really no matter where you are, you have a chance of seeing some scattered showers, so i think the morning commute will be wet, be careful of any roadways that may still be flooded in the morning. 10:00 tomorrow morning, we could still see scattered showers, the chance of a thunderstorm tomorrow but by tomorrow evening, i don't think it is going to be the type of activity that we saw tonight with the heavy rain and flooding but we still do have the rain in the forecast. for tonight, showers and storms around heavy rain still 61 for the low in philadelphia. 59 north and west. tomorr

many of the customers in the dark today are in delaware county. nbc 10's matt delucia is live in one of the hardest hit areas, middletown township. matt? >> reporter: rosemary it might be tough to see me because we have sun rising behind us. fortunately that sun will provide a lot of good benefit to the people who are going to be working to clean up all the damage that was caused by the storm last night. just behind me, again, it will be very difficult to see. there's a tree that is down here on baltimore pike. we are just pass valley road. it's takeing out the right lane and part of the left lane. the cars are slowing down as they try to get around this. we every now and then had a bit of a backup. there was a truck with a wide load trying to get through here a little while ago. really had a tough time. the cones right there, that's the only thing protecting the vehicles from running into that tree. it took down some of the utility wires as well. there was a lot of damage caused as a result of this storm. we have video. this is from new jersey gr

and this is causing a flood advisory until 7:45 for delaware philadelphia, delaware county i should say. philadelphia and lower montgomery county. because of rain that could be leading to localized flooding. flash flood warning, a little more imminent of a threat through new castle county. across 95, wilmington here. this goes until 7:30 because of possible flooded roadways in this area. and the potential for more flooding with more heavy rain moving in. so now we pay attention to the baltimore area. this is a section of storms these are still developing but some of these storms are, in fact moving pretty quickly. this cluster is severe. it's still around the baltimore area, but it is moving in this direction. this one could have winds near 60 miles an hour. a lot of lightning, heavy rain moving to the northeast around 40 miles an hour. middletown can expect it by 6:23. smyrna. delaware will be one of the first areas that storm hits not too long from now. closer to the shore along atlantic city, storms hanging off the shore. these storms are, in fact moving away. but left behind still a
