behind me is the emanuel ame church, mother emanuel, as she is known. the streets in this neighborhood have been reopened finally. the church itself is closed. we do not know when that will reopen. it is needed here. it's a source of strength for the community, has been for 200 years. as for the man who caused so much pain inside of this building behind me, the 21-year-old suspect is back in charleston right now. he's scheduled to make a court appearance here this afternoon. police say it was dylann roof who opened fire inside of the emanuel ame church wednesday night killing nine people during a bible study class. he was apprehended in shelby, north carolina, about four hours away. she was spotted by a woman on the road. he had a gun in his possession when police took him in to custody. it's not clear whether that is the same gun used in in the church shooting. family members are disputing some law enforcement reports that roof's father bought him the .45 caliber handgun for his birthday. some suggest he got the gun for hims. we are getting information

already we're hearing presidential candidates talk about what happened there at emanuel ame and talk about whether there needs to be a discussion -- further discussion and action about racism in america, about the confederate flag on the grounds of the state capitol there. you heard it from hillary clinton yesterday, and mike huckabee on the morning talk shows. how do you see what happened there in charleston really finding its way continually on the path to the white house, 2016. >> well, a few things. obviously today is still mainly a day of mourning and of some celebration, some healing. especially here in charleston. at the end of the day, it's an intimate local story in a very small down. i have not met a single person that does not know someone who knows someone if they were not directly impacted themselves. but monday when you get to a new day, a workweek, these issues are going to become political. there are at least four issues. a question of gun control and gun safety how will that be handled. the question of the confederate flag which is likely to become a real hot potato.
