what about anthrax and the pentagon? it was the pentagon police force that got one of the suspect shipments, the batch did turn out to have positive anthrax in it. they are trying to figure out if any of that actually made it to the laboratory that the pentagon were using not inside the pentagon we're told now today. they don't think it ever came inside the building. it was pentagon police force operation at a laboratory and used anthrax to help calibrate equipment. this is one of the examples of what's going on right now. they are looking at more than 30 shipments across 12 states and three countries where they believe there may have been live anthrax shipped. apparently the system the process for killing it off at an army laboratory before it was shipped out didn't work. now they know there's about 30 shipments they have to go through. now they also have to go back through years of records to see what they have and try to track it down. it's a story that's continuing to grow. carol? >> barbara starr reporting live for

the pentagon is trying to do now is track down all 400 or so samples and testing 400 so far. only four have tested positive for live anthrax, but that's four more than they expected because the stuff was supposed to be eradiated before it ever left dugway proving ground in utah. this has been over the course of several years since 2005 or 2006 when the samples were first sent out. so the pentagon's investigation the cdc's investigation will focus on whether the eradiation worked and whether the testing afterward was accurate and was enough to determine whether or not there were live spores. obviously they missed some because they have been reported now in at least two labs. the pentagon admits that there are more than twice as many as they originally thought those numbers could still go up and they also say even though 31 workers are being medicated as a precaution that the public is not at risk. >> tracie potts on the hill for us, thanks. >>> we know that he did what's right in his mind. >> a community is rallying around the parents of a young journalist. they're ail coming

we have pentagon correspondent barbara starr joining me now. given us an update here, barbara. >> reporter: hi, brianna. suddenly the pentagon opening the door to the possibility of sending hundreds of additional troops to iraq just one day after that 450 troop level increase was announced. now, how does this all work? what the pentagon is talking about is something called lily pads bases across iraq where there are iraqi troops where u.s. troops may go to help work as military advisers. the idea they say, is that these troops, these iraqi troops, need to be trained on basic military tasks, supply command and control communications logistics, repair all the basic military tasks that keeps an army on the move will be on the shooting of those frontline combat forces. there's sense now they need to shift and work on some much of these skills. what it means actually is that indeed hundreds more u.s. troops could be headed there. they are already looking at three to four additional sites and a pentagon official said they're looking not at hundreds o

jennifer griffin is live at the pentagon this morning. what more do we learn from the battle of baiji. >> it's still too early to celebrate. the militias have not overtaken the baiji refinery. the iraqi military broke through the isis siege this weekend, the first good news since the embarrassing fall of romadi last month. the iraqis need a win right now. the coalition has only carried out three airstrikes in the baiji area since the weekend, even though that is the heart of the fighting right now. u.s. defense officials tell me that some parts of the city of baiji were taken by iraqi security forces partnered with iranian-backed shiite officials. iraqi security forces attacked from south into the town of baiji and pushed some elements of isis fighters away from a few government buildings. so far 320,000 iraqi troops have been trained by the u.s. troops there. the pentagon would not say, however, whether any of those are fighting in baiji right now, shep. >> we're learning about the raid that ended up with the demise of an islamic state f
