chuck bell is with us back from r & r at the beach. >> it was nice. let me tell you it was almost impossible to drag me out of the pool yesterday to get back to work. it was so nice out. yesterday, a beautiful day, the humidity was gone, a nice northwesterly breeze. you are thinking this is the way i want my weekend to start. unfortunately it's not the way it started. clouds rolled in and rain dropped behind the clouds. many folks are off to a wet start. the rain should be over with in the next several hours. by the time we get to midday and afternoon, clearing skies will put us back on green light conditions. it will be easier the second half of the day than the first. right now, lots of clouds over d.c. and rain drops moving in as well. 75 now is the temperature at national airport. winds are southwest at six. if you are planning on doing a run early this morning it's going to be a wet one. if you can wait until later in the day, you won't have to splash through puddles. we are going to stay in the 70s. after that things should improve rapidly. suns

storm team 4 meteorologist chuck bell is right there. we're both geeking out about this. we are waiting for the pictures to come back from pluto, right, chuck? >> absolutely. it's going to take a little while before we get the pictures back, but it's an exciting morning out here. the new horizon spacecraft left cape canaveral 9 1/2 years ago and it's been a long time getting out there for sure. sending back a lot of information. it did a close pass by jupiter years ago but it's just the distances that get you amazed at all of this. so pluto is several billion miles away from us. and these are some of the images they're sending back now. the spacecraft is only 61000 miles away but look at how fast it's ticking by the miles here. when you're driving your car at 60 miles an hour you're doing a mile a minute. i did the math, it's moving along very, very quickly. less than two hours away from the closest approach and keep in mind, it will be a little less than 8,000 miles away. but that's four billion miles from here and aaron it takes eight minute for a beam of light to get f
