kron four's jeff bush is live tonight in the newsroom with the story jeff. >> jeff :they said that if their client had been taken to the hospital and said of the jail they say he would have been alive tonight--instead of the jail 50 year old alberto petrolino was found dead in his san francisco county jail cell on tuesdayofficials say he hanged himself. petrolino was booked into jail on saturday following an incident at the golden gate bridge. chp officers were looking for him because someone had called and informed police that he was suicidal and might be at the bridge. when chp officers found him, he was drunk and sleeping on a bench in the parking lot. petrolino managed to convince officers that he was ok and did not intend to hurt himself. they believed him but he had a bench warrant out for his arrest because he failed to appear in court on friday. that appearance was required because he violated an order to stay away from his ex girlfriend's house. >> andrea lindsay : he was continuously going to his ex's house and knocking on the door and then sleeping on the front sidewalk.: h

jeff goldberg has the very latest developments. jeff: a great deal of relief and satisfaction from investigators who have been working tirelessly on this case. finally bringing charges after this awful crime that took place in march of 2014. the grand jury indicted derek sprouse of spotsylvania. he's accused of malicious wounding and parole violations. the authority say that sprouse entered the convenience store and asked the clerk for smokeless product. when the clerk turned around, he allegedly shot her in the back of the head. he shot her a second time before fleeing. he shot her the second time in the face. miraculously, she survived and called 911. after 100 interviews and countless hours of work investigators arrested sprouse. >> people were very concerned and they want it results. >> i hope she gets what she is looking for, justice. jeff: sprouse is in jail in north carolina, awaiting trial for a convenience store robbery in that state. he is expected to be brought back to virginia at some point soon. meanwhile, they're expr

kron 4's jeff bush is live at the hall of justice tonight with the latest details. jeff? >> jeff :the developments just keep coming for this story. as sanchez just had his first day in court. we're also learning of the weapon that was found of the crime scene was initially issued to a federal agents. it was a big day in the case of kate steinle's murder. her accused killer francisco sanchez was arraigned in superior court. he was wearing county jail issued orange and black clothes. he was not wearing hand or ankle restraints a new development in the case kron four is learning that the pistol recovered by san francisco police dive teams was issued to a federal agent. a law enforcement officials said, under condition of anonymity that a check of the serial number on the weapon confirmed it is a federally issued gun. it is not known which agency the gun is from or how the agent lost possession of it. what we do know is that it is the suspected murder weapon in steinle's killing. sanchez said he found the gun wrapped in a t shirt on pier 14 and accidentally fired the fatal ro
