an attack on two military installations in tennessee. four marines shot and killed today in chattanooga. a lone gunman also killed, and this hour, still many unanswered questions. welcome everybody i'm in for neil cavuto and this is "your world." we know the fbi is expected to bring in several hundred investigators as they try to determine who is behind the shooting and what was the motive. it follows alerts that u.s. military personnel could be targets. witnesses reported hearing 30 to 50 gunshots. the front window of a recruiting station, peppered withbullletholes and now in new york city, they're beef up security at a recruiting station times square. we begin with john roberts. >> reporter: i'm at the training center in choate. officials held a press conference and released some details. we're learning a lot but still a lot we do not know. bill killon, the u.s. district attorney says they're pursuing this as an act of domestic terrorism, not ruling out any kind of nexus to isis or any other terrorist group but at the same time saying

it's here along the tennessee river. this is the spot where the shooting was said to have gone on for 15 to 20 minutes and where police engaged very quickly. you figure police come to this location first. the guy gets away by the time the police are there, and he's here. now you've got two different locations, and that explains the "chattanooga times free press" reports of -- early reports of scanner traffic telling them man, this is going on in multiple places at the same time. it wasn't the same time. apparently from everybody we have been able to pull together the guy left here, goes here. this is where the four marines are injured, this is where the police officer is shot. and this is where it appears now, again, right along the tennessee river, the suspect got away at least a little bit. and according to the reporting of the "times free press" he went into a wooded area. you see a number of those around the second location. at some point somebody confronted him. we believe police officers. and the suspect was shot a

home to nearly all of tennessee's death row inmates. it contains the state's only operating death chamber. yet, even outside death row, the majority of riverbend's convicts are considered so dangerous they remain on lockdown 23 hours a day. you're about to see firsthand the extreme measures prison staff take to control such an explosive population and discover what can happen when so many offenders have so little to lose. nashville, tennessee, is the world-famous home of country music, but just four miles from downtown is home to this state's most violent offenders. it's a high-tech correctional facility called riverbend maximum security institution. riverbend opened in 1989 and sits on 132 acres. it replaced its 100-year-old predecessor, the tennessee state penitentiary, known as the walls. today, riverbend houses close to 700 male inmates, 480 of them are high risk offenders, classified this way because they're a threat to the security of the institution and other inmates. >> we house the worst of the worst including the male inmates,
